以苯二胺為基本架構,與含不同碳數、鏈數的柳醛縮合反應,合成出具有席夫鹼(Schiff-base)官能基的化合物,分別為1Cn-hyppda、2Cn-hyppda、3Cn-hyppda、2Cn-hympda 和 3Cn-hympda以及錯合物Cu(3C16-hympda)。 利用核磁共振光譜對結構做初步的鑑定,再以元素分析來探討化合物的結構及純度。以偏光顯微鏡對不同溫度時的相變化,作液晶相種類的初步觀察,再以示差掃描卡計(DSC)測量相變化溫度及熱焓值變化,最後以x-ray粉末繞射儀鑑定液晶相時分子的排列。實驗結果顯示,化合物2Cn-hyppda、3Cn-hyppda、3Cn-hympda和錯合物Cu(3C16-hympda)系列均屬於六角筒型液晶相(hexagonal columnar phase)。化合物1Cn-hyppda 的系列屬於層型的液晶相。化合物2Cn-hympda 的系列屬於軟固體。 Liquid crystals (LCs) are a special type of liquids, in which molecules tend to self-assemble through various intermolecular forces. LCs are currently one of the active research targets in material chemistry owing to their interesting variety of chemical and physical properties and the possibility for technological applications. New series of LC molecules are described, in which two salicylaldimine groups are linked by a phenylene core. The synthesis and mesomorphism of two series of LC compound containing schiff-base group is reported. A series of p-phenylenediamine derivatives (3Cn-hyppda, 2Cn-hyppda, 1Cn-hyppda) and m-phenylenediamine derivatives (3Cn-hympda, 2Cn-hympda) was synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, polarized optical microscope ( POM ), differential scanning calorimetry ( DSC ), and powder x-ray diffraction. The mesogenic phases of compounds 3Cn-hyppda, 2Cn-hyppda, 3Cn-hympda , 2Cn-hympda exhibit columnar hexagonal phase. The compounds 3Cn-hyppda ( n = 10, 12)、3Cn-hympda and complex Cu(3C16-hympda) exhibit the room temperature liquid crystal phase.
