For the past 37 years, from 1971, the group insurance market in Taiwan had been growing so rapidly that the number of insureds and the volume of premium income had increased significantly over the years.
However, in recent years, worsening economic condition and political issues have impeded foreign investments and forced many domestic companies to close operation or relocated their factories and employees to other countries seeking for more favorable profits. And, in consequence, this trend will inevitably affect the group insurance market in Taiwan.
Under this unfavorable situation, the “Voluntary Group Insurance” may be the answer to revitalize the market, in that it will provide lower insurance premium for the insureds and their independents.
This study examines claims experience of those insured under group insurance policies, surveys the insured and their dependent’s reaction towards the adjustment of premium and several other risk factors.
In order to facilitate the adoption and for the development of “Voluntary Group Insurance”, this study offers some suggestions for insurance companies those are interesting in this new business.
