摘要: East Asia and Latin America were pillars of global economic growth in the early 1990s and, despite the financial turmoil thereafter, still represent huge long-term growth potentials. Just to mention the recent emerging importance of the so-called ""BRIe"" (Brazil, Russia, India and China) where Brazil and China are shining with their presence.
Despite the above mentioned, both si des historically distant from each other and lack of a mechanism for direct dialogue and cooperation. Thus, come into existence ""FEALAC"" or Forum for East Asia and Latin America Cooperation (with FOCALAE as its spanish acronym) as result of an initiative started by Singapore and Chile, in late past decade.
FEALAC is sort of an Asian-Latin American version of ""ASEM"", a 35 members Asia-Europe Meeting, although the former gained in space for a broader spectrum of multilateral issues and studies.
This paper intends to give itself as a small token of appreciation towards this nascent trans-pacific forum, to make wishes for Taiwan to join this new grouping, and remains promptly to welcome comments.
