    Abstract: This paper reports a survey research on the Tamkang English Reading Improvement Project for English majors for the spring semester, 2001. The main goal of the reading project was to help students learn to read, to become a more effective and
    efficient readers and then ultimately arrive at a command of the English language that it may be used as a tool to learn other sUbjects. In addition to the text From Culture to Culture, some other reading materials were added. The added materials
    were categorized into six content areas. Two questionnaires were given to find student attitudes toward the new materials and the new approach. The results of the two questionnaires for the project and the interview show that students responded
    positively to the pedagogical change because more than half of the students (57%) were happy with the added reading materials. The main purpose of this report is to attract the interest of the authorities and other professionals to see the rationale
    behind the pedagogical shifts, and then consider what changes may be useful for non-English major reading programs.
