The purpose of this study was to devdop a videodisc-based computer aided multimedia anchored instruction, Encore's Vacation for Chinese students and to examine its effects on student attitudes toward mathematics and toward anchored instruction Seventyfour fifth-graders Cm two classes) were used to examine students' attitudes toward maematics and instruction. Results from a test indicated a significant main effect on student attitudes toward instruction (t=3.42, pc .01). Follow-up analyses showed that students, after using anchored instruction, felt more fun likeliness to solve math problems as well as felt more positive, interested and less anxious toward mathematics. The data also suggested that there were no significant differences between girls and boys on their attitudes toward mathematics before and after the treatment. This study was significant because it set up an example of anchored instruaion for the Chinese elementary students and provided empirical evidence for its effects on promoting positive attitudes toward mathematics.
