    Abstract: 近十年來,我國大專院校在整體量的提昇上有大幅度的成長,其總數目已遽增至一百五十餘所,這證明我國高等教育已由「菁英型」(Elite type)走向「普及型」(Universal type)。但大學數量迅速擴充之後,高等品質是否也有相對的提昇是目前國人更關切的問題。現今一些由政府或民間主導的大學評鑑或排名,也逐漸引導著學生選校,促進大學彼此的競爭,並發展成社會對高等教育一種監督功能。 淡江大學 高等教育研究中心已於九十一學年度及九十二完成了以「美國新聞與世界報導」為研究標竿的「我國大學學術聲譽排名之研究」及「我國大學工程學門聲譽排名之研究」兩份研究報告,各界雖有批評之聲,但也獲得國內許多大學的熱烈回響。本論文是一實證性的比較分析研究。其主旨是分析 淡江大學 高等教育研究中心所完成之以上兩項研究報告之資料蒐集方式所遭遇之問題與困難比較分析。本研究主要分為三部分:(1)分析國內二份首次完成之排名研究報告之研究方法與實施之缺失;(2)比較具進行資料蒐集所遭遇之困難與解決方式;(3)對未來國內進行學術排名研究之資料蒐集提出建議。
    In the past ten years, the total number of colleges and universities in Taiwan higher education has been growing dramatically up to 150, which represents that higher education in Taiwan underwent the period of "elite type" and "mass type", shifting to so-called the period of"universal type" now. Following the expansion of higher education, what was concerned more is if the quality of Taiwan higher education has been improved equivalent to the quantity. In response to the social demand, some governmental agencies and private institutions conducted some evaluations or rankings, which had a great impact on student selectivity, resource allocation and self-improvement of colleges and universities in Taiwan. This study is to make a comparison between two ranking reports "National College Rankings in Taiwan " and "Engineering Program Rankings in Taiwan" published by Tamkang University in 2003 as well as to synthesize the advantages and misuses of methodology of both rankings. Although the rankings had brought severe criticisms from academics as well, it did prompt the competitiveness among colleges in Taiwan higher education a lot. The study is divided into three parts: (1) the research methods of college ranking and program ranking reports of Tamkang University will be analyzed first; (2) the problems in the process of data collections in these two reports will be discussed next; (3) suggestions for a further study will be offered as a conclusion.
