Abstract: The title compound, Ni (HACTD), has been synthesized from 1,10-phenanthroline and was identified by infrared, mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. The 1-chloronaphthalene solution of Ni(HACTD) was oxidized by using of much excess of iodine to get a black powder. This powder was characterized by solid state diffuse reflectance electronic spectra which shown a broadening structureless peak near 500 nm caused from charge transfer in polyiodine ion. The iodized compound show nearly the same infrared spectra pattern but with obviously shift of some major peak which may be investigated as the charge density distribution was changed on the macrocyclic ligand ring. These results strongly evidence the partial oxidation of Ni(HACTD) without destroy the macrocyclic complex. Other evidence was the parent peak M+/e-254 of I2 and M+/e=127 of I in mass spectrum observed. The thermal analysis of DTA and TGA was investigated. The electric conductivity of this compound will be discussed.
