Abstract: 2-( l-Isoquinoly1)-3,4,5- triphenylpyrrole (4) and 2-( l-isoquinolyl)-3-p-anisyl-4,5-diphenylpyrrole (6) have been synthesized by unambiguous methods. The synthetic samples are identical with the products of the acid- or base-catalyzed isomerization of 2-( l-isoquinolyl)-3,3,5-triphenylpyrrolenine (3) and the base-catalyzed isomerization of 2-( l-isoquinolyl)-3-p-anisyl-3,5-diphenylpyrro1eni(n2e l ), respectively. By inference, 2-( 1-isoquinoly1)- 4-p-ani~yl-3~5-diphenylpyrro(l7e) is the product of the acid-catalyzed isomerization of 2 1. These facts provide additional support for the mechanisms of the isomerization reactions proposed in previous papers.
