    摘要: To identify the causes for the unprecedented high-amplitude vibrations reported for the trains moving at certain speeds, both experimental and theoretical investigations were conducted on two adjacent simply supported bridges of concern. The present results indicate that the elastic bearings inserted at the supports are responsible mainly for the unprecedented resonant vibrations, although their main function is to isolate the earthquake forces transmitted from the ground. From the design point of view, there is obviously a trade-offbetween the isolation of earthquakes, which is oflower probability of occurrence, and the maintenance of riding quality and maneuverability of the train, which affect daily the passengers on their travel.
