Abstract: With a strategic game, the current study explores the factors relevant to author
collaboration when they face the expanding external knowledge stock. In addition to
better coordination, we found authors with more complementary research efforts more
likely to form co-authorship. Moreover, as the expanding external knowledge stock
accumulates, only the authors with positive combined absorptive capabilities to
assimilate it will exhibit a rising co-authorship propensity.
