摘要: Stirling regenerators are one of the emerging non-conventional type of Heat Exchanger. Application of porous regenerators can be useful by terms of absorbing the energy by means of conduction from hot fluid and that energy can be used to pre heat the cold liquid entering the system. Pressure drop is one important characteristic to be evaluated to predict the performance of the regenerator. An experimental setup was developed to evaluate the hydrodynamic characteristics of regenerator. Experiment was performed for the stainless-steel wire screen of 200, 300 and 400 mesh in oscillating flow conditions. The experiment was performed for different angular velocity of the bellows. Historically lot of co relations have been developed for estimating the friction factor of different type of porous regenerator. In the present study, the Ergun’s correlation available in ANSYS Fluent is used to estimate the pressure drop, which is depending on particle-based regenerator assumption the uniformly sized wire structures exposed to flow as a particle. The validation between the numerical and experimental results shows the suitability of Ergun’s correlation for wire screen type regenerator and has good agreement.
