    Abstract: This paper intends to introduce a two-dimensional soil spring model that can be used to predict the settlements of a mat under uniformly vertical loads. The model was incorporated into a two dimensional numerical analysis of the mat settlements using FD method. Solutions comparable to 3D FEM analysis will be presented.
