This study, via adopting the methods of questionnaire survey and literature review, mainly aims to explore the satisfaction of teachers towards the use of school buildings and facilities in elementary schools in New Taipei City.
The major purposes of the study are:
1.To understand the satisfaction of teachers towards the use of school buildings and facilities in elementary schools in New Taipei City.
2.To analyze the differences in the satisfaction of teachers with different backgrounds towards the use of school buildings and facilities.
3. To propose suggestions, based on the findings of this study, useful for the future reform of related policies.
Full-time and by-contracted teachers in public elementary schools in New Taipei City were selected as the sample population of the questionnaire survey. Through the stratified random sampling, 400 teachers were chosen, and 387 valid questionnaires were collected and analyzed (valid response rate was about 96.75%).
The conclusions of this study can be summarized as follows:
1.On the whole, teachers in elementary schools in New Taipei City had quite satisfied with the use of the school buildings and facilities.
2.Teachers’satisfaction towards the dimension of the “affiliated facilities” is the highest, while that towards the dimension of the “sport fieldis or grounds” was the lowest
3.Teachers had the highest satisfaction towards “the provision of the number of water dispensers”, and the lowest satisfication towards the space design of teachers’ common rooms (including conference rooms), and the space design of stadiums, gymnasiums and the space for indoor activities.
4.Teachers were also not satisfied with the furniture of the classrooms, apart from the above-noted the dissatisfaction towards the space design for teachers’ common rooms, etc.
5. Teachers’ satisfaction toward the school buildings differed significantly in terms of their gender, age, the status of teaching, years of teaching in the current school, accumulated years of teaching, school size, the date of re-construction of school buildings, but did not differ with their educational qualifications.
