Over the years there have been three grand strategies in Japan to strengthen the
country. The third grand strategy of “bringing back a strong Japan” intends to create a
third miracle period, following the Empire of Japan period and the period of the
world’s second largest economy. The quality of strong leadership, and not the face of
dictatorship, describes the thrust and logic of the administration aimed at providing a
bright future, something everyone can understand given the current environment.
“Economic recovery”, “educational recovery”, “diplomatic and security recovery”
and “recovery of living standards” are the four pillars supporting this strategy for the
revitalized Japan. “Economic recovery” is the priority and it will also be an effective
means of winning national elections. Abe’s efforts to deliver greater wealth and
military strength will create a new era for Japan, and not a return to past lackluster
performance. Even though many things can be recovered, time can’t be taken back.
The future however can be designed and built. There is a hope gestating in peoples’
hearts, and spreading the seeds of this hope will surely bring a bright and lasting
future for Japan.
