This study had three purposes. First, to examine the relationship between life adaptation and learning effects of new immigrant children in junior high schools in New Taipei City. Second, to analyze the life adaptation and learning effects of new immigrant children from different backgrounds and identify the differences and correlation. Third, to better understand the effects of the life adaptation of new immigrant children on their learning effects.
A questionnaire was designed to collect data in this study. Questionnaires were distributed to 503 students and this survey achieved a 83.45% response rate. A variety of statistical methods were employed, including descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings of this study are as follows:
    1. New immigrant children are well-adapted.
    2. New immigrant children have good learning effects.
    3. There are differences in new immigrant children’s perception about their life adaptation due to their gender, family structure, father’s educational level, and school location.
    4. There are disparities in new immigrant children’s learning effects due to their gender, grade, maternal nationality, father’s educational level, mother''s occupation, and school location.
    5. There is a weak positive correlation between the degree of social adaptation and learning effects of new immigrant children.
    6. The degree of new immigrant children’s’ social adaptation will affect their learning effects.
This study provides educational authorities, school officials, teachers, and researchers with suggestions for facilitating new immigrant children’s adaptation as well as improving their learning effects.
