Abstract: Being inspired by H. P. Lovecraft's essay «Supernatural Horror in Literature», this studyhas constructed a coherent descriptive model of the literary genre of Horror with its internal and external relations, which could serve as a starting point for possible expansions. For that reason, several concepts of the key studies on fear have beencompared, reviewed, and extended, from Aristotle to the mostrecent approaches, through Radcliffe, Freud, Delumeau, Kristeva, Carroll, and Jackson, among others; and we have determined the differences between two close genres as terror and horror. The present article will analyse several theoretical approaches in this respect, ranging from the History of Literature, to Psychoanalysis, Psychology and Literary Theory, and will seek common points and develop key theoretical concepts for the demarcation of the Horror genre, and which has long been a perfectly delimited genre.
