Abstract:	本書從文字的創造過程切入，指出「象形文」的突出，不應掩蓋「漢字」的「符號性」；這種「一字多義性」乃是使「中國詩歌」形成以婉轉的表達來寓含深刻義蘊的「中國詩歌傳統」的主因。台灣的「中國抒情傳統」論，本源自有心的學者檢討清末以降，國人因自己的文學史中缺少西方的「史詩」與「悲劇」等偉大文類而致自慚的心態，而由陳世驪氏在台灣明白提出，然後再由高友工氏擴大為「文學理論」。但陳氏似乎忽略了古代「詩人」因同時身兼「士」和「官」等身分，故而常採「主文而譎諫」的方式「寫詩」，用「諷諭」來「言志」的普遍事實；本書中的第一、二、三、六等篇即在疏證此事。
