A mathematical model considering the heat and mass transfers in a normal freezing coolthermal storage system using wastewater as the phase change material is developed and solved for the approximate solutions. The effects of system parameters on the solidification rate and the amount of solute removal are studied. The amount of solute removal is a function of the solidification thickness and the solute distribution coefficient between water and ice. The optimal amount of thermal storage and the optimal solidification thickness have been determined.
