    Abstract: "次"除了順序、次第、處所等義外,還有表時間或表動作進行體之義,這種用法常見於禪籍,後來消失了,許多詞典都未收錄此義項。文章從歷時角度看"次"的發展,試圖找出時間"次"的詞性與來源。"次"的詞性有兩種可能,"VP之次"的"次"是時間名詞,"VP次"的"次"是動態助詞。"次"的來源、發展軌跡是從動詞(駐紮),變成名詞(停歇處),再變成時間名詞,最後成為有時間意味的動態助詞。空間"次"多用在"NP之次"或"VP之次"格式中,時間"次"則多用在"VP次"格式中。時間"次"沒落的原因是其在語法功能、普及度、頻率上均不如"時"廣泛,故沒有流傳下來。
