Abstract: This study investigated the longitudinal trends of Information Communication & Technology (ICT) research using scientometric methods to conduct an automatic content analysis in the 20-year span from 1996 to 2015. A total of 2,476 refereed journal articles were retrieved from the online ISI Web of Knowledge in the field of Education and Education Research under the topic of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Based on the automatic content analysis, all publications were grouped into six major topics/clusters. The results of the content analysis also revealed that the top six journals that have published the most ICT-related articles were Computers and Education, Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, Journal of the Korean Association of Information Education, British Journal of Educational Technology, Educational Technology and Society, and Australasian Journal of Educational Technology. Additional variables including the most cited references and the most prolific countries and authors were applied to data analysis and data interpretation. The results of the analysis can provide useful insights for educators and researchers about the trends of ICT in educational research. Especially, the results can help young scholars to broaden their scopes in research conducting and academic paper writing in the future.
