This study proposed a design for a music learning device that combines tablet computers and glockenspiel. The proposed learning device comprised two systems: one is a music teaching system, where users edit melody and scale exercises on the tablet computer, and another is a glockenspiel performance system. First, teachers compose training contents of melody and scale on the tablet computer, and the glockenspiel performance system generates the corresponding knocking hints with LED light. The learners then follow the knocking hints (LED light) practice the melody and scale exercises. This type of interaction enhances children’s interest and motivation to learn and practice melody and scale exercises. Results of field trials and a questionnaire survey reveal that the proposed system increases students’ interest and efficiency in learning.
