This study aims to investigate how principals lead students in the learning process, and what methods they use for this purpose. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 5 elementary school principals who have received Excellent Principal Awards from the Ministry of Education. The conclusions are as follows:
.Principals must first understand a school’s environment before establishing goals for improving students’ learning.
.Principals play a role in facilitating the professional growth of teachers, in encouraging them to pursue further training, and in establishing learning communities.
.Principals make use of various channels for observing and assessing students’ academic and learning performances.
.Principals shape the learning cultures of their schools by first expanding their own professional knowledge and expertise.
.Principals are key in getting faculty members of the school to take joint responsibility for the school’s performance, combining the goals of the individual with those of the school.
.Major challenges faced by principals include changing the school’s culture and that of the workplace.
.The pssesed requisiteness in how a principal leads students in learning are their professional knowledge and skills, as well as their continual self-improvement.
.To resolve these challenges, principals must listen to the needs of the school community and establish a platform for communication.
Based on the results mentioned above, this study provides concrete suggestions to elementary school principals, administrative agencies in the field of education, institutions that train principals, and future researchers.
