With its population aging fast, Taiwan has entered the aging society After two-day weekend being effective, the rise of leisure awareness
stimulates participation in leisure activities, which can help people get
positive benefits. In 1982 Stebbins brought out the concept “serious leisure”,
in which older adults may have more time to spend. Drawing from literature
and relevant research, the article explores what benefits serious leisure can
bring to older adults, and concludes the characteristics of older adults’
information behaviors, including information needs, affecting factors,
information seeking channels, etc. To close, it is suggested that the
government, libraries and relevant corporate bodies should further examine
their related services through understanding older adults’ information
behaviors, and face up to the issue of serious leisure information for older
adults.
