    Abstract: The Liposonix non-invasive treatment uses high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and temperature is about 60 to 70 degrees Celsius (140 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit), restricted to the targeted area with no thermal scattering. Surrounding areas (skin, fat, abdominal cavity) remain within normal body temperature. The objective of this study is to investigate deep heating in subcutaneous tissue with pre-cooling effect for ultrasonic heating. Skin pre-cooling effect is expected to heat tissue in deeper region without excessive heating cutaneous surface in both skin tightening and Liposonix treatments. Ultrasonic absorption coefficient is different in each layer of architecture and frequency plays an important role in delivering energy in tissues. Results showed that cutaneous pre-cooling process could help heating tissues in the deeper region. This will encourage a new design of thermal control in Thermage and Liposonix treatments.
