This study develops a numerical method to analyse the behavior of an encased granular column embedded in soft clay. The proposed method employs the elastic-plastic constitutive law with non-associated flow rule for filled material and the strain hardening-softening relationship for the encasement. Modified Cam-clay model is employed to characterize mechanical behavior of the soft clay. Finally, the proposed model analyses encased sand columns embedded in clay, which involves three materials, namely clay, sand and geotextile. All the numerically analyzed results are proven to be satisfactory with model test results.
