Abstract: In the world of ELT, this is the best of times and the worst of times for English teachers. With the advent of new technologies, content material is easy to obtain as infinite online resources are readily available for classroom adaptation, making learning and teaching ever more efficient. New technologies have also brought about changes in how we learn and explore as evidenced in the ubiquity of digital tools, which has the potential to render obsolete the traditional classroom, making yesterday's best practices rapidly become outmoded.
Are we prepared to meet the ongoing challenge of mastering new practices in both our research and pedagogical techniques in an era of radical change? How do we keep abreast of the latest developments in our field?
The speaker invites the audience to ponder the issues to foreground her theme on the topic of ESP instruction in the Internet age. Beginning with her own experience teaching EAP to college EFL, the speaker overviews current practice and the emerging field of research on mobile pedagogy for ESP. This is followed by a discussion on designing projects incorporating internet sources and mobile applications to facilitate learning in context and in the real world situations to address the academic and professional linguistic needs of ESP students.
