Surface wrinkling and rippling are critical issues of many technologically significant applications and thus attracted considerable attention. Based on some researchers have been revealed that the buckling of a stiff layer resting on a compliant substrate, but no related literature explore experimental validation and application of the nonlinear ripple structure. The present project further purpose two innovative methodologies to fabricate the nonlinear ripple structure with periodically arrangement and probe its formation mechanism and property. To demonstrate the potential application of the wrinkle and the nonlinear ripple structure, we provide an innovative technology to fabricate a hydrophobic thin film inspired by the nano/micro-structures on lotus leaves and mosquito legs.
