By Burt’s theory of structural hole theory and brokerage, the position of brokerage in a network is efficient in accessing and transferring nonredundant knowledge from different networks. Since knowledge becomes one of the most important factors for a firm’s success, this proposal is trying to build up a framework connecting the idea of brokerage in interorganizations such as strategic alliance. We first focus on identifying knowledge brokerage in strategic alliance with social network analysis by both qualitative interview and quantitative analysis. We aim at global high tech firms. The main research questions we discuss here include: First, the brokerage position of a network might be identified by social network analysis; secondly, we talk about if the brokerage position in a network will have a positive influence on innovation; and we talk about if the brokerage position in a network will have a positive influence on its performance. And finally, we compare the brokerage and close network position and find out which one will be a better network position.
