Taiwan’s population structure is facing a declining birthrate in recent years. The first to be affected by such a trend is education, as the number of students enrolled at various levels of schools dropped sharply, making many schools face operational difficulties, including insufficient enrolment, class reduction, surplus teacher, schools being cut down or merged and lack of funding. These will eventually lead to significant influences on operational development and educational environment quality of schools at all levels. By the case of a private girls high school, this study explores the pressure of private schools from operation, enrollment, and funding when they face the trend of declining birthrate, discusses the impacts and influences of the trend, and proposes coping strategies for the low birthrate and future operational principles for schools through interviews with the school faculty.
