The purpose of this project is to investigate the relationship between private health insurance and inpatient service utilization based on latent class analysis (LCA). Firstly, by using latent class analysis, we find relevant questions relating to participant's risk attitude in National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) as risky-factor proxies to divide our samples into different latent risk class groups. Then, we use logit and tobit regression to investigate the relationship between behavior for purchasing private health insurance and latent risk class groups. Finally, by using Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD), we utilize two part model to further examine the relationship among latent risk class groups, private health insurance and subsequent inpatient utilization. Our project's results may provide some implications and inspirations relating to how individuals decide their insurance demand and health care demand based on their risk attitude.
