This project establishes a theoretical model, includes one intermediate-good’s firm in the upstream market, one original firm and counterfeiter with free entry in the downstream market, to discuss the influences caused by counterfeiting on profits of original firm, consumer surplus and social welfare. Under the vertical-related market structure, the purpose of this project is (1) to investigate whether the counterfeiting decrease the profits and the incentive of R&D of the original firm? (2) to explore how the government enforcement policy affects the pricing and profits of the upstream firm? (3) to discuss whether the government enforcement policy will benefit consumers? (4) to explore what is the difference between the government enforcement policy in the presence of and that in absence of counterfeiting?
