With the rapid development of Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Network (WASN), large number of sensors need large number of IP addresses to connect to the Internet. Therefore, how to implement IPv6 in WASN becomes a critical research issue. In addition, because WASN is designed to run for long periods of time, how to reduce power consumption is another important research direction. For WASN, in which some sensor nodes may be allowed to move, an architecture for integrating IPv6 over Low power Wireless Personal Area Network (6LoWPAN) with Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is indeed one solution but the handover latency of PMIPv6 still needs to be further improved. For this reason, this paper aims at improving the handover latency by implementing HF-PMIPv6 in the 6LoWPAN PMIPv6 architecture. Also, we investigate the influence of the handover determination for HF-PMIPv6 mode switching upon the 6LoWPAN PMIPv6 architecture and the follow-up problems for reference.
