<title>Strategies to Improve Auditing Performance and Soundness for Cloud Computation</title>
      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/115875</link>
<description>title: Strategies to Improve Auditing Performance and Soundness for Cloud Computation abstract: Since the cloud computation auditing becomes important recently, Wei et al. proposed their cloud computation auditing scheme. However, they assume that the cheating adversary always gives the random response for the auditing challenges. This assumption is impractical. When only a small part of adversary’s response is random, the number of challenges is increased dramatically. Then the auditing load becomes so heavy that the auditor cannot give the auditing results in reasonable time. Moreover, the probability of finding out incorrect computed results cannot reach that the users want. To improve the on-line audit performance or probability, the off-line easy-auditor improving strategy, the function-based improving strategy, and mixed strategy are proposed, respectively. Utilizing the off-line computation concept and the cloud computation server help, the online audit performance, and the audit probability will be improved.

<description>title: A Design of Mobile Application for English Learning abstract: Learners can listen to music and read the synchronous lyrics using this mobile music playing application. The proposed system will make questions that correspond to lyrics for EFL (English as Foreign Language) learners studying. This approach focuses on retrieving verb-noun collocations and making appropriate questions automatically. BNC (British National Corpus) has been chosen to calculate mutual information to get the correct collocations, and the synset of Word Net has been used to make wrong candidates which people often make mistakes for using collocations. Therefore the learner can study anytime, anywhere by using mobile devices, proposed mobile application, lyrics reading and music listening.

      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/100405</link>
<description>title: The Design of English Article Recommender Mechanism for Senior High School Students abstract: For most English learners, reading English articles has always been a good way of improving the English proficiency. However, it is not easy to select interesting English articles of adequate difficulty vocabulary level. The purpose of this work is to devise a mechanism for selecting appropriate English articles for ESL learners in Taiwan. The proposed mechanism works by indicating whether a particular article, e.g., English news, is adequate in difficulty for the senior high school students in Taiwan.

      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/100403</link>
<description>title: HanZi Handwriting Acquisition with Automatic Feedback abstract: One of the most crucial distinctions between Chinese and Western languages is that the former is based on ideograms, whereas the latter is based on phonograms. Due to this distinction, Western learners of Chinese often experience more difficulties in grasping correct character stroke sequence and/or stroke direction relative to native Chinese speakers. In this paper, we designed a HanZi writing environment with automatic feedback to address the above issue. Before the collection of HanZi characters on a massive scale, we conducted a pilot study to collect handwritten Chinese samples from 160 college students in the U.S. The findings from this study enabled us to further refine the learning environment and design optimal learning and teaching strategies for learners and teachers.

      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/53359</link>
<description>title: MAC Protocols in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks abstract: With the rapid development of wireless technologies, the Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) have recently received much attention. VANETs technologies aim to ensure traffic safety for drivers, provide comfort for passengers and reduce transportation time and fuel consumption with many potential applications. The achievement of these aims highly relies on efficient MAC protocols which determine the performance of packet transmission in terms of success rate, delay, throughput and bandwidth utilization. This chapter reviews the existing MAC protocols developed for VANETs. Initially, the IEEE 802.11p and DSRC standard are reviewed. Three TDMA-based MAC protocols, called CVIA, VeSOMAC and D*S, are then introduced. In addition, three MAC protocols that cope with the emergency-message broadcasting problem are proposed. Finally, a reliable MAC protocol which is developed based on the cluster topology is reviewed.

      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/45591</link>
<description>title: A VR-based virtual agent system abstract: Agent technology can be used to represent individuals participating in a virtual university. Avatars are virtual actors on behalf of students and instructors navigating in a three-dimensional (3D) virtual campus. This chapter presents a system based on virtual reality (VR) technology as well as agent technology that enables online discussions via different real-time communication channels. The system has a generic interface, which includes five scenes of a virtual university, as well as a set of plug-and-play communication agent tools. Each user is maintained by an intelligent agent that controls the navigation behavior based on a rule-based computation. Behaviors of each student are restricted and guided by intelligent agents. The system can be extended for the construction of any virtual university with 3D campus and online communication facilities.

<description>title: A Layered Multimedia Presentation Database for Distance Learning abstract: Multimedia presentations are suitable for instruction delivery. In a distance learning environment, multimedia presentations are lecture materials to be broadcasted among a number of workstations connected by networks. In order to manage these course materials efficiently, a multimedia database management system (MDBMS) is essentially important. We propose a MDBMS, which has five layers. Attributes of elements in each layer as well as database operations are discussed. The system supports storage sharing and object reuse. The system is implemented on Windows ’98 with the support from a conventional database management system. Also, we present an instruction-on-demand system, which is an application of the underlying MDBMS. The instruction-on-demand system is used in the realization of several computer science-related courses in our university.

<description>title: Multimedia software engineering abstract: Multimedia Software Engineering is an emerging area combining software engineering, multimedia computing, visual languages and visualization. We can view Multimedia Software Engineering from two different, yet complementary, perspectives: 1) to apply multimedia computing, visual languages and visualization to the practice of software engineering; and 2) to apply software engineering principles to the development of multimedia applications and systems. This chapter surveys some of the approaches and recent advances in Multimedia Software Engineering.

      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/45576</link>
<description>title: A Collaborative Virtual Reality System on the Web abstract: Studies of the multi-user virtual reality system have become a popular topic in the computer graphics community in the recent years. World Wide Web (WWW) provides a seamless, browsable and boundless way for the user to view and retrieve information from the Internet. Integration of the multi-user virtual reality environment into the Web environment provides aricher way for the user to access the network resource, such as video or sound clip, and tobuild a virtual society over the Internet. This chapter presents the architecture and the implementation of a multiple user 3D Webbrowsing system, called the SharedWeb system. The SharedWeb system successfullyintegrates the DIS technique into the existent Web server to provide a natural solution for themultiple user interactions over the Web environment. Problems of providing the multi-user interaction on the Web and the solutions from the SharedWeb system are fully elaborated here. Some experimental results are also presented to show the effects of different framerates and threshold values on system performance. And at the end, this chapter will beconcluded with the demonstration of supported virtual worlds.

<description>title: Multimedia abstract machine abstract: We propose a multimedia abstract machine (MAM), a software model and system based on a timed Petri set, for multimedia applications. This system is to integrate a number of multimedia software systems that we have developed. The machine runs a set of pseudoassembly instructions. A multimedia assembly program, consisting of multimedia atomic functionalities, is generated by our various multimedia systems. We also propose a typed multimedia language which allows the composition and demonstration of multimedia presentation objects. The language allows the presentation designers to plan the presentation script programs according to audience's interactions. The improved multimedia presentation thus can learn from the audiences and present different materials each time. Using our language and system, the designer is able to design dynamic multimedia presentations.
