      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/127863</link>

      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/127862</link>

<title>In-between Fiction and Non-fiction: The Aesthetics and Politics of Independent Hong Kong Short Films in the Era of Social Protest</title>
      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/121200</link>
<description>title: In-between Fiction and Non-fiction: The Aesthetics and Politics of Independent Hong Kong Short Films in the Era of Social Protest abstract: Given the 2014 Hong Kong Umbrella Movement and the large-scale Anti-Extradition protests in 2019, Hong Kong filmmakers have been vigorously engaged in filmmaking, while intervening in the socio-political scenarios by referring to the current turbulent Hong Kong social movements with their filmic works. The term “post-Umbrella Movement films” has also been subsequently raised by the scholars and critics (Tam 2017; Lee 2017; Lee 2019) corresponding to Hong Kong’s socio-political conditions. However, most of the existing literature mainly focuses on the 2015 Hong Kong film “Ten Years” (Carrico 2017; Chan 2017; Fang 2018; Wu 2018; Lee 2019; Shi 2019; Wu 2020), whereas the researches on other filmic works regarding Hong Kong social protests are relatively lacking. Hence, this research aims to focus on several independent Hong Kong short films, while exploring how the filmic aesthetics and politics can be shown in these independent Hong Kong short films as the filmmakers’ response to the Anti-Extradition protests in 2019 particularly, as well as to the overall Hong Kong socio-political scenarios in general. To be specific, using four independent Hong Kong short films as case studies, which are “Night is Young” (dir. Kwok Zune, 2020), “After the Riots, Before the Liberation” (dir. Chung Hong Iu, 2020), “Stay If You Can/Go If You Must” (dir. Elysa Wendi, 2019), and “Room 525” (dir. Wai Shing Lee and Elysa Wendi, 2019), this research highlights the unique narrative strategies and experimental cinematic aesthetics intertwined with fictional images, non-fictional documentary footages of social protests, and photographic images in these independent Hong Kong short films. It also analyzes the interviews with the directors and their related discourses, alongside the issues in film production, circulation and (self-)censorship. Finally, this research examines independent Hong Kong short films vis-à-vis the filmic aesthetics and their political agency, while hoping to expand the research scope on the Hong Kong protest films and to build up more dialogues with the studies on contemporary Hong Kong cinema and the Hong Kong post-Umbrella Movement films.

      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/120213</link>
<description>title: Crowdsensing Route Reconstruction using Portable Bluetooth Beacon-based two-way network abstract: There have been plenty of R&amp;D efforts to achieve precise indoor positioning of users. With weak or no GPS signals, Wifi / Bluetooth and other approaches such as ultrasonic and accelerometers has been used for indoor positioning. In this demo we focus on reconstructing visitors route using the combination of Bluetooth proximity tags and custom made Bluetooth Beacons. Bluetooth Beacons are usually used to emitting simple identification information for retrieval by a mobile app, which will in turn use this information to get own position from a mobile network. Our custom Bluetooth beacons has the capability to form a two-way network between Bluetooth Beacons, making it highly portable and very easy for deployment. We'll show how to setup the system and how to identify and reconstruct route information of visitors. The information can be used to improve user experience.

      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/120185</link>
<description>title: Building Bluetooth Beacon-based Network for Spatial-Temporal Data Collection abstract: Bluetooth beacons are usually configured to send out simple ID information. For the user to send own locational information to a remote server he/she must have a mobile phone with dedicated APP installed, as well as a working Inernet connection. In this study we build a network using Bluetooth beacons, which enables collection of locational information without the presence of Internet connection and mobile phones. Visitors wearing Bluetooth bracelets that broadcasts ID information can be detected by the Bluetooth beacons, and the information will be collected, buffered and relayed to a remote server that is capable of analyzing those information. Worked with a local theme park and performed some real world tests, it is found that this setup is a capable positioning/crowdsensing infrastructure. Preliminary results of data collection and analysis are also presented in this paper.

<description>title: Crowdsensing Traces Visualization in Bluetooth Beacon-based Sensor Network Using Wearable Device abstract: Bluetooth beacons have been used to identify people's location. But due to its limited capability, mobile APPs and Internet connection are often needed to relay the ID information broadcasted by Bluetooth beacons. In this study we built a complete solution based on customized Bluetooth beacons and Bluetooth bracelets. The process is "inverted" as Bluetooth bracelets send out ID information and Bluetooth beacons receiving them. The received information will then be relayed through a two-way network built by the Bluetooth beacons and eventually to an Internet-connected PC and finally a server on the cloud. The beacons are also carefully tuned for power efficiency and can run on batteries for several weeks, enabling easy deployment.

<title>K-aggregation: Improving Accuracy for Differential Privacy Synthetic Dataset by Utilizing K-anonymity Algorithm</title>
      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/120183</link>
<description>title: K-aggregation: Improving Accuracy for Differential Privacy Synthetic Dataset by Utilizing K-anonymity Algorithm abstract: Enterprises and governments around the world have been attempting to leverage intelligence from the community by making formally in-house database available to the public for analyzing. The released data was often “anonymized”: sensitive attributes were removed from the dataset for privacy protection. However it is proved that masking sensitive attributes alone is not adequate for data protection. Differential privacy can be used to generate “synthetic dataset” that retain statistical properties of the original dataset and limit data-leaking risk at the same time, but there's always a trade-off between data privacy and utility. In this study we aggregate data counts across value with little counts to ease the problem of excessive error at the data value with small data count. Experiments show that K-aggregation has the potential to reduce error of count queries on value with smaller counts. Limitations of this approach are also discussed.

<title>Using Data Mining Methods to Detect Simulated Intrusions on a Modbus Network</title>
      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/120182</link>
<description>title: Using Data Mining Methods to Detect Simulated Intrusions on a Modbus Network abstract: In the era of Industry 4.0 we seek to create a smart factory environment in which everything is connected and well coordinated. Smart factories will also be connected to cloud service and/or all kinds of partners outside the boundary of the factory to achieve even better efficiency. However network connectivity also brings threats along with the promise of better efficiency, and makes Smart factories more vulnerable to intruders. There were already security incidents such as Iran's nuclear facilities' infection by the Stuxnet virus and German's steel mill destroyed by hackers in 2014. To protect smart factories from such threats traditional means of intrusion detection on the Internet could be used, but we must also refine them and have them adapted to the context of Industry 4.0. For example, network traffic in a smart factory might be more uniformed and predictable compared to the traffic on the Internet, but one should tolerate much less anomaly as the traffic is usually mission critical, and will cause much more loss once intrusion happens. The most widely used signature-based intrusion detection systems come with a large library of signatures that contains known attack have been proved to be very useful, but without the ability to detect unknown attack. We turn to supervised data mining algorithms to detect intrusions, which will help us to detect intrusions with similar properties with known attacks but not necessarily fully match the signatures in the library. In this study a simulated smart factory environment was built and a series of attacks were implemented. Neural network and decision trees were used to classify the traffic generated from this simulated environment. From the experiments we conclude that for the data set we used, decision tree performed better than neural network for detecting intrusion as it provides better accuracy, lower false negative rate and faster model building time.

<title>Exploring the Relationship Between Dimensionality Reduction and Private Data Release</title>
      <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/120181</link>
<description>title: Exploring the Relationship Between Dimensionality Reduction and Private Data Release abstract: It is important to facilitate data sharing between data owners and data analysts as data owners do not always have the ability to process and analyze data. For example, governments around the world are starting to release collected data to the public to leverage data analysis competence of the crowd. However, some privacy leakage incidents have made the public to rediscover the importance of privacy protection, leading to new privacy regulations. In existing researches dimensionality reduction has played an important role in private data release mechanisms to improve utility but its influence on privacy protection has never been examined. In this study, we perform a series of experiments and found that dimensionality reduction could provide similar privacy protection effects as K-anonymity mechanisms, and it could work as a preprocessor of K-anonymity process to it to reduce the generalization and suppression needed.
