      <title>Identifying elderly depression using the Depression Rating Scale as part of comprehensive standardised care assessment in nursing homes</title>

      <description>title: Identifying elderly depression using the Depression Rating Scale as part of comprehensive standardised care assessment in nursing homes abstract: Objectives: This study used data from the SHELTER (Services and Health for Elderly in Long TERm care) project to explore the benefits of using the Depression Rating Scale (DRS) as part of a standardised needs assessment in UK nursing homes, including a statistical method of effectively identifying characteristics linking to residents’ depression.&#xD;
Method: About 499 residents in nine nursing homes in south-east England were assessed with interRAI Long Term Care Facilities (interRAI LTCF), a standardised assessment tool containing the validated DRS residents who scored 3 or more on the DRS were considered ‘might suffer from depression’. A list of characteristics associated with depression was then examined using bivariate analysis and logistic regression.&#xD;
Results: Among the 499 residents assessed, 67.5% were not depressed (DRS &lt; 3) and 32.3% might suffer from depression (DRS ≥ 3). The final logistic model showed ‘never married’ (p = 0.019), ‘diagnosis of COPD’ (COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) (p = 0.015), ‘feelings of pain’ (p = 0.015) and ‘trouble sleeping’ (p &lt; 0.001) were significantly associated with reporting of DRS score of 3 and more.&#xD;
Conclusion: The article argued that DRS has distinctive advantages for using in UK nursing homes where a preponderance of residents is cognitively impaired, the procedure of screening depression is not regulated and resources to treat depression is relatively scarce. This article also demonstrated how using the DRS as part of a comprehensive standardised needs assessment facilitates analysis of characteristics linking to depression, which has significant policy implications in improving care quality and management.

      <description>title: A Review of Composition Teachers' Written Feedback from Learners' Perspectives abstract: A considerable number of the studies have examined the issues on themanners and effects of teacher written feedback from the perspectivesof the teachers, but few studies have been conducted from theviewpoints of the students. To bridge the gap between these twoperspectives, we synthesized thirteen studies on student processing ofteacher written feedback in the ESL/EFL contexts. The findingsrevealed that student preference for and reaction to the commentariesprovided by the L2 teachers varied differently from classes toclasses, from individuals to individuals. The mixed results might beattributed to contextual, annotation, and affective factors. Eachfactor would be discussed in detail, followed by a critique onmethodology. It is suggested that such previous studies are worthwhileto be replicated in Taiwan with more rigorous research designs andwith more expanded scopes. Finally, pedagogical implications wereaddressed.

      <description>title: 蘇珊．葛列絲貝戲劇中的地方與性別 abstract: 蘇珊．葛列絲貝戲劇中的地方與性別 本研究計畫試圖以兩年期的時間詳細探討蘇珊．葛列絲貝（Susan Glaspell 1876-1948）的戲劇作品，並以「地方」（place）與「性別」（gender）作為貫穿的主題。葛列絲貝在美國二十世紀戲劇史上有重要的地位，尤其是她創立的「普羅文斯頓演員劇場」（Provincetown Players）促進美國二十世紀初的「小劇場運動」。葛列絲貝在世時，她的作品大受歡迎，《艾利森的房子》（Alison’s House 1930）更獲得普利茲戲劇獎。然而在她死後，作品卻乏人問津。直到第二波女性主義運動，女性主義者開始回顧並發掘女性前輩作家的作品，他們發現了葛列絲貝的《瑣事》（Trifles 1916），並稱葛列絲貝為「遺失的寶石」。爾後，葛列絲貝的戲劇作品一再被上演，相關的文獻探討也如雨後春筍。 本研究計畫意欲全面性地探討葛列絲貝的十一部戲劇作品，並探討葛列絲貝的女性主義空間觀。葛列絲貝的戲劇常被視為充滿豐富地方色彩的寫實主義作品，其中體現了美國中西部的文化特質。然而，這種將某一地域視為一個固定的封閉概念，侷限了葛列絲貝戲劇作品的多元面貌。因而，本研究計畫採以開放的「地方」角度重新閱讀葛列絲貝的作品，探討「性別關係」在地方有所差別地被建構而成，而地方認同也因性別關係而改變。
