title: Die Entwicklung der maschinellen Übersetzung und ihre Implikation für den Übersetzungsunterricht: Eine Pilotstudie zur automatischen Evaluation des Effektes der Textsorte bei deutsch-chinesischen Übersetzungen abstract: 自從神經機器翻譯系統問世以來，機器翻譯的品質有了劃時代的進步。不管是專業譯者或是學生，都早已開始使用線上機器翻譯翻譯各種文類文本。然而，機器翻譯翻譯各類文本的效能不一，譯文可能因為文本特性造成可讀性與精確度的差異；應用機器翻譯後編輯時要注意的語言特性，也會因文類有所差異。當前機器翻譯研究的語料取材自新聞居多，德漢機器翻譯教學相關研究的材料，多為使用說明書之類的科技文本，較少關注其他類型及來源的文本。有鑒於此，本研究除了考察文獻、更新研究現況，也以書籍翻譯語料的自動評測為例，分析商務信函、醫療報導及小說等文類。結果指出，文類、句長及系統皆會影響機器翻譯的結果。論文中並討論其對翻譯教學的啟示。

Deficits in Processing of Lexical Tones in Mandarin-speaking Children with Developmental Language Disorder: Electrophysiological Evidence

title: Deficits in Processing of Lexical Tones in Mandarin-speaking Children with Developmental Language Disorder: Electrophysiological Evidence abstract: Purpose This study explored the neural marker indexing deficits in discriminating lexical tone changes in Mandarin-speaking children with developmental language disorders (DLDs) using mismatch negativity, an event-related potential component for auditory change detection. Mandarin has four lexical tones characterized by a high-level tone (T1), high-rising tone (T2), low-dipping tone (T3), and high-falling tone (T4), in which the T2/T3 contrast is acoustically less discriminable in developmental groups. Therefore, this study further examined how deficits in children with DLD would vary with tonal contrasts' acoustic saliency. Method Event-related potentials were measured using the multideviant oddball paradigm described by Lee et al. (2012), who used Mandarin syllables [i] in T3 as the standard sound (80%), T1 as the large deviant (10%), and T2 as the small deviant (10%). Twelve children with DLD aged between 4 and 6 years participated in this study, and 12 age-matched children with typical development were selected from the data set of Lee et al. (2012) as the controls. Results The T1/T3 change elicited adultlike mismatch negativity in both the DLD and control groups, while no group difference was revealed. The T2/T3 change elicited a robust positive mismatch response (P-MMR) in children with DLD, while the P-MMR was less significant in the control group. The group comparisons revealed a larger P-MMR in children with DLD than in the control group. Furthermore, children with lower scores in language assessments tend to reveal larger P-MMRs. Conclusions This study demonstrated that deficits in children with DLD in discriminating subtle lexical tone changes reflect greater positivity of P-MMR to T2/T3 change. This implies that MMR to T2/T3 may serve as a neural marker for evaluating language delay in preschoolers.

title: Die transhumane Tiergesellschaft in Dietmar Daths Science-Fiction-Roman Die Abschaffung der Arten: Eine Dystopie einer Tierfabel abstract: Unter der hoch technologisierten Moderne ist die Chimäre zwischen dem Menschen, dem Tier und der Maschine bereits irreversibel. Dementsprechend sind die Menschen als herausgehobene Spezies in der Ökologie allmählich unter Bedrohung. Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit Dietmar Daths Science-Fiction-Roman Die Abschaffung der Arten (2010), in der eine transhumane Tiergesellschaft sich entfaltet, und der Analyse einer zukünftigen Konfrontation einer endlosen Metamorphose des Homo sapiens. Mit der Abschaffung dualistischer Determination, wie Tier/Mensch, Organismus/Maschine und Natur/Kultur, handelt es sich zuerst um ein „Jenseits der Arten“ in Bezug auf epistemologische Fragen. Nicht nur die Entgrenzung des Körpers, sondern auch die chimärische Lebensform führt zur weiteren Frage nach dem „Jenseits des Geschlechts“, inwieweit eine Geschlechtsidentität unter der Fortpflanzung nach weiblicher und männlicher Determination im Sinne einer Heterosexualität steht. Schließlich ersetzt die Technologie die Biologie. Unter „Jenseits des Sexualdispositivs“ geht es um die Frage, wie das Leben gegenüber dem Tod durch den Eingriff des Transhumanismus funktioniert. Die Untersuchung des Science-Fiction-Roman Die Abschaffung der Arten, der nicht die Supermenschen, sondern ihre Ausrottung erschafft, bietet eine Beobachtung, wie die Menschen über die Vernetzung anderer Arten und Weiterentwicklung des eigentlich Menschlichen denken. Mit einer dystopischen Tierfabel stellt der Autor die übergreifende technologische Entwicklung in Frage. 高度科技發展的趨勢下，未來人類與動物、機器的嵌合已不可免除。然而人類長期在生態中的優勢也日漸面臨著威脅。本文藉由迪特．馬達特2010年科幻小說《物種滅絕》開啟一種超人獸社會，探討未來人類生存方式所面臨不停轉變的挑戰。首先，在人/獸、生物/機器、自然/文化等二元論認知的廢除下，未來該如何定義一種所謂的「來世物種」，而身體界線的消失與嵌合的生活形式，進一步討論「來世的性別」，究竟這種轉變如何在保留異性戀繁衍的規則中構成，最後，當科技取代了生物學，「來世的性部署」在權利施展下，究竟讓「生與死」的範疇又會如何在超人類思想中轉變。科幻小說《物種滅絕》的未日世界分析，旨在提供當代人類與其他物種媒合及社會後續發展的觀察。作者藉由一個反烏托邦的動物寓言質疑過度全面化的科技發展。

title: China's Raw Materials Diplomacy and Governance Cycle: Toward Sustainable Mining and Resource Extraction? abstract: China's raw materials diplomacy and unregulated purchasing of minerals in Africa and Latin America, as well as its domestic raw materials export quota, have for years been eyed with suspicion by state and private actors. Industrialized countries want to uphold and extend free market access to raw materials, but also strengthen their political accountability and sustainability. However, critics argue that in contrast, China, the world's largest metals and minerals trading power, has taken the opposite course, ignoring social and environmental standards, reinforcing authoritarian governments, and erecting trade barriers. China is faced with several interrelated challenges in its resource diplomacy and governance. This article claims that an identifiable, chronological connection and pattern has existed between China's aid and investment diplomacy for resources since the late 1990s, free trade agreements since the 2000s, Beijing's resource nationalism since the 2010s, and the reform process of national and privately organized transnational governance toward sustainability in the present day. Is China socializing with emerging transnational standards on mining and resource extraction in the developing world, and if so, why? This article argues that China's raw materials governance, including corporate governance, has entered a phase of reform to pacify the external environment and to implement the Belt and Road Initiative. In theoretical terms, China's raw materials governance will continue to emphasize neoliberal and neo-mercantilist goals, cushioned by globalist features.

title: Julia Francks Roman Die Mittagsfrau als Medium des kollektiven Gedächtnisses abstract: 本文研究內容將一方面討論德國女作家茱莉亞．法蘭克在她文學作品基礎中對20世紀德國歷史記憶文化的想法 (特別是作家法蘭克父親孩童時代親身的經歷)，另ㄧ方面將從這樣的記憶文學中探討一種媒介的技術。2007年，茱莉亞．法蘭克的小說《午間女人》無疑提供了好奇的讀者再次回到德國過去的年代: 一方面讀者正如同作家本身作為第三個世代，試著從時間的距離去解釋上一輩和上上一輩所經歷的災難；另一方面也親身體驗小說從一戰到二戰後，橫跨時代的歷史背景。而《午間女人》也在2007年獲選為德國年度最佳小說，並成為當代記憶小說的指標。就上述的觀點，我們可以反過來思考，以《午間女人》這個具體的例子來說: 文學如何能在記憶文化中產生影響? 針對這樣的小說分析，本文以「母親消失的記憶」、「父親之死的記憶」及「失去認同」等三階段闡述作者如何用不同的角度敘述個人、家族與整個德國歷史的回憶。其最終目的在於探討，記憶文學對於集體回憶所帶有儲存、傳播和溝通的特性。 With her 2007 novel The Noonday Witch Julia Franck creates new interest for the German past: First, the reader tries to look from Julia Franck’s perspective as the granddaughter at the disasters of her parents and grandparents, and explain them. Second, the reader tries to embed the whole occurrences in the historical background of the German Empire under Kaiser Wilhelm II, the First World War and the Weimar Republic as well as the Second World War and its consequences. The Noonday Witch was therefore awarded with the "German Book Prize" on 8 October 2007 for the novels rising ideological implications, so that it has gained popularity as a contemporary literature of remembrance. This paper focuses on the relationship between Julia Franck’s ideas of a culture of remembrance of twentieth-century German history (in particular her father’s childhood experience) as a basis for her presentation of literature on the one hand and media technology of literary criticism on the other hand. Therefore, one can ask how literature – with the example of The Noonday Witch – affects the culture of remembrance. My analysis of the novel on the one hand methodically refers to the statement of the individual in society and memory formation, and on the other hand to the observation of specific social memory reflections. Finally, it refers to the question of how individuals shape collective memories in a society and how therefore a literary text works as a medium for memory. I consider this not only as a contribution to the so-called "principle of remembrance" and consequently to the literature of remembrance, but also to the relationship of a culture of remembrance.

title: Die Kritik an Hölderlins Ode “Der Frieden” abstract: 十八世紀初德國，當時正處於「法國大革命」結束後期。而這場政治事件的效應，也連帶影響當時德國的文壇。因為這場所謂的「革命」不僅對法國，也對德國政治、社會、經濟，包括知識份子產生很大的刺激。德國當代文學家赫德琳 (Friedrich Hölderlin) 也利用法國大革命這背景，創作了一系列關於「戰爭及和平」議題的作品。由於對革命從期待轉為失望，赫德琳的創作風格也由早期批判戰爭的態度，於晚期漸漸轉為對烏托邦理想世界的一種寄望。就在上述赫德琳文風轉變的時間點，一七九九年的夏天，他創作了ㄧ首賦「和平」。本篇文章在分析這首詩前，分別於前兩個部份分析了當時十八世紀時人們對於和平這個概念的定義，及當時法國大革命對德國文壇及赫德琳個人作品影響。進而觀察，這首賦如何反應「和平」的概念。 Obwohl zu Beginn des 18. Jahrhunderts die Französische Revolution bereits fast zu Ende war, beeinflusste sie diese Epoche der deutschen Literatur stark. Denn diese Revolution hatte nicht nur in Frankreich, sondern auch innerhalb der deutschen Politik, Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft, sowie unter den Intellektuellen große Veränderungen verursacht. Vor diesem Hintergrund verfasste einer der bekanntesten deutschen Lyriker dieser Zeit Friedrich Hölderlin eine Reihe von Werken über „Krieg und Frieden“, wobei Hölderlins Schreibstil sich allmählich von einer kritischen Haltung gegenüber des Krieges zu einer Vorstellung von einer utopischen Idealwelt wandelte. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt, also im Sommer 1799, schrieb Hölderlin die Ode „Der Frieden“. Durch die Analyse dieser Ode soll in diesem Artikel zuerst die Definition des Friedensbegriffs im 18. Jahrhundert erklärt werden. Zudem werden die Auswirkungen der Revolution auf die damalige deutsche Literatur und auf Hölderlins Werke dargestellt. Anschließend wird betrachtet, inwiefern diese Ode eine Friedensvorstellung reflektiert.

title: Stanley Kubricks "Eyes Wide Shut" nach Arthur Schnitzlers "Traumnovelle" im transmedialen Diskurs abstract: 在奧地利小說家施尼茲勒原著《綺夢春色》與美國大導演庫柏力克文學改編電影《大開眼戒》中,共同討論婚姻關係裡的情慾幻想與現實。因此這種介於夢境與真實的模糊地帶提供了小說與電影這兩種媒介呈現方式的比較。本文藉由跨媒介性質的討論,首先指出,小說《綺夢春色》及電影《大開眼戒》彼此在媒介性質上的相同與差異。緊接著討論電影媒介上特殊的現象,也就是說: 大螢幕的呈現如何取代我們的潛意識及視覺聽覺的表現如何替代我們的感知。 Arthur Schnitzlers Traumnovelle und Stanley Kubricks filmische Adaption Eyes Wide Shut handeln von den sexuellen Begierden in einer Ehe, die sich zwischen Traum und Wirklichkeit bewegen. Diese Grenzverwischung zwischen Traum und Wirklichkeit lässt sich medienkomparatistisch analysieren: Ausgehend von einem transmedialen Diskurs werden hier erstmals am Beispiel von der Traumnovelle und Eyes Wide Shut Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede in der Medialität von Text und Film aufgezeigt. Anschließend soll die Frage nach medienspezifischen Phänomenen untersucht werden: Wie also z.B. der Bildschirm als Ersatz des Unterbewussten und die audio-visuelle Inszenierung als Wahrnehmung eine Rolle spielen. Diese Analyse soll exemplarisch zeigen, welche Auswirkungen eine Literaturverfilmung auf das Textverständnis hat.

title: 難解的區域衝突 - 論卡拉巴赫區衝突問題 abstract: 卡拉巴赫衝突係歐安組織涵蓋區域內，從冷戰結束迄今，尚未解決的三場區域衝突之一。由於歷時久遠，固有「被冷凍的衝突」之稱。不過，此一「被冷凍的衝突」卻不時發生人員傷亡的衝突事件，2016 年4 月雙方且爆發自1994 年的停戰協定以來，人員傷亡最為慘重的衝突。衝突發生後，歐洲安全暨合作組織、歐洲聯盟、俄羅斯、美國等相繼呼籲衝突雙方遵守停火協定。歐安組織係此一衝突的主要處理機構，而其明斯克小組共同主席則是主要協調人。但歐安組織歷時二十餘年的協調努力，成效卻極為有限。本文首先分析卡拉巴赫衝突的起源與發展；其次分別探討國際組織(聯合國、歐安組織和歐洲聯盟)、南高加索周鄰國家(俄羅斯、土耳其和伊朗)的相應對策，以及和當事國的關係發展；繼之討論此一衝突的難解之處。最後是本文的結語。

title: Mismatch responses to lexical tone, initial consonant, and vowel in Mandarin-speaking preschoolers. abstract: The present study investigates how age, phonological saliency, and deviance size affect the presence of mismatch negativity (MMN) and positive mismatch response (P-MMR). This work measured the auditory mismatch responses to Mandarin lexical tones, initial consonants, and vowels in 4- to 6-year-old preschoolers using the multiple-deviant oddball paradigm. The data showed the coexistence of MMN and P-MMR in the same age group when responding to the three types of syllabic features in Mandarin. The transition from a predominantly positive response to a predominantly negative response supported the multiple MMN mechanisms. Congruent with the phonological saliency hypothesis and the phonetic acquisition order of Mandarin in behavioral studies, for the compulsory elements of Mandarin syllables, lexical tones, and vowels, the larger deviants elicited adult-like MMNs, whereas the smaller deviants elicited P-MMRs. The optional elements of the Mandarin syllables, the initial consonant, only elicited P-MMR in preschoolers. These findings suggest that MMN and P-MMR index different functional characteristics and may provide information on when and how children's speech perception becomes automatic at different developmental stages.

title: From a weak letter of intent to prevalence - the toy industries' code of conduct abstract: In 2003, the global toy industry started a new attempt to implement common standards on working conditions in the notorious ‘sweatshop-factories’ especially in China, where up to three million people from rural provinces produce toys for Western brand name companies. This article explores, why and how the common industry code of conduct (CoC) of the International Council of the Toy Industries (ICTI) gathered momentum and who will benefit from this dynamic. One reason for this harmonization is the uncontrolled growth of unilateral CoC in the industry, that makes it impossible for suppliers to comply with all the requirements, particularly when they deliver to many different brand name companies. Credibility gaps of- and critical reports about the CoC-record of major brand name companies like Disney, Mattel and Hasbro were continuously issued by Nongovernmental Organisations (NGOs) from Hong Kong (the Hong Kong Christian Industrial Committee, HKCIC), its Northern network partner, the German Catholic Organization Misereor under the umbrella of the ‘fair-play’ campaign and, by several media reports in reputable newspapers in the USA. Since 2004, even Mattel as a widely acknowledged ambitious company on codes of conduct, supports the less ambitious sector code. Moreover, the ICTI CoC enjoys support from some big retailers like Karstadt-Quelle, Argos and Woolworth, that give the industry code real authority within the industry. ICTI negotiates with the biggest toy retailers Toys'R'Us and Walmart to accept the code like their own. The coordination between the big retailers and the brand name companies can potentially end current weaknesses of single codes of conduct, that leaves the managerial thesis about ‘first-mover-advantages’ or reputation effects for the brand name companies as a myth. In the long run, the major brand companies may benefit of a better reputation of the whole industry, due to the fact that the image of a brand is strongly connected with the image of the whole sector.

title: Proverbial Sayings in Teaching German as a Foreign Language abstract: The German phrase “Schwein haben” does not mean that you are in possession of a pig. And “die Sau rauslassen” refers not to an act of pet friendly liberation.Proverbial phrases of this kind are an indispensable part of everyday German and occupy an important place in popular culture, such as in advertisements, on radio shows or in newspaper articles. The treatment of such proverbs in the classroom, however, is only been considered a marginal issue by the foreign language teaching methodology. A methodological and didactic integration of idiomatic expressions at the level of vocabulary hardly occurs despite the fact that the teaching of these expressions should be taken for granted since the communicative approach. Building on the methodological approach of Kühl (1992, 1996), the present paper introduces a five step approach to teaching proverbial phrases in a German as foreign language class.

title: China's Rare Earth Sector - Between Domestic Consolidation and Global Hegemony abstract: Purpose – China holds a global monopoly of up to 97 percent for rare earth elements (REEs), which are indispensable for all kinds of twenty-first century high-tech applications. Since China has disrupted its exports and started discriminating between domestic and foreign demand, REEs have become a geostrategic resource. In March 2012, Japan, the USA and the European Union jointly filed a World Trade Organization dispute settlement case against China. The purpose of this paper is to elaborate why China implemented export quotas and tariffs on REEs and how the state is engaged in this sector domestically and abroad. Design/methodology/approach – The analysis frames China as a “competition state” and connects domestic with foreign economic policy on REEs. It uses data from Chinese official documents and non-Chinese sources. Findings – Better government control aims to consolidate the sector and lay the foundation for three other goals, namely: the establishment of integrated and innovative Chinese corporations that compete globally; the provision of incentives to attract high-tech foreign direct investment to China; and better environmental protection. China wants to climb the next step of the technological ladder to gain global economic leadership. Practical implications – Global environmental protection in mining is eased. However, non-Chinese market players can only take advantage of new business opportunities when the prices remain high. Since REEs are of strategic importance, rising political interference and raw materials diplomacy will continue to distort markets and price building. Originality/value – The paper connects domestic reregulation of China's rare earth sector with foreign policy goals (or “going in” and “going out”) using the competition state approach.
