    <title>從中間開始：論日常中的媒介使用</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/124437</link>

    <title>協作的行動性與城市空間實踐：以WeMo Scooter共享電動機車為例</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/121362</link>
    <description>title: 協作的行動性與城市空間實踐：以WeMo Scooter共享電動機車為例 abstract: 媒介研究領域已有豐富成果指出，智慧型手機在促成人際溝通之時，亦促成個人空間經驗變化。本文認為，進入行動時代後，智慧型手機應用範圍已不再僅作為人際溝通之用，在物聯網發展趨勢下，智慧型手機可與其他日常物件連動，逐漸廣泛地介入日常生活，成為個人進行日常活動所仰賴的終端管理裝置。因此智慧型手機所帶來的城市空間變動已不只在個人經驗層次，社會空間生成的物質向度亦因其介入而產生改動。&#xD;
本文以智慧型手機與電動機車連動共構的ＷeMo Scooter共享機車為例，試圖理解這個需由媒介中介的行動性體系如何構成，及其介入城市空間生成的過程。循「空間轉向」（the spatial turn）思潮，本文首先指出城市空間乃是物質實體與社會關係的共構產物，且城市空間處於持續生成的動態過程中；在此認識基礎上，本文進一步援引「行動性典範」（mobilities paradigm）以掌握行動性體系的構成要素，並說明行動性體系如同城市空間皆處在持續生成的動態過程中，且兩者相互影響各自生成。&#xD;
同時，由於本文欲探究的共享機車系統必須經智慧型手機中介方得運作，因此本文以媒介介入城市空間的歷史補充說明，在城市空間的生成過程當中，媒介亦扮演重要角色，到今日行動時代亦然，其幅度甚至更深且廣。由此本文認為無論是行動性體系或是媒介體系，皆在城市空間生成的過程中展現其「政治性」。&#xD;
在前述基礎上，本文認為行動性體系與行動媒介兩者皆可視為「社會—技術—文化」共構產物，據此，本文進一步說明在日常生活逐漸朝向編碼化的進程中，行動性體系（電動機車）與行動媒介（智慧型手機）的彼此接合共構出了新型態的行動性體系，本文將其定義為「協作行動性」（collaborative mobility），其乃促成媒介實踐與移動實踐無法二分的技術系統，並由此介入城市空間的生成。&#xD;
本文所指涉的「協作行動性」以有別於過往的型態介入城市空間生成，關鍵環節在於其構成與運作皆必須仰賴智慧型手機，且必須以常民實踐為本方得以持續完成。故本文緊接著從實踐角度，探討常民參進協作行動性體系的實踐過程，說明常民實踐並不僅在象徵意義層面轉化了個人生活空間的意涵，具物質向度的城市空間紋理與行動性體系自身，乃至常民日常生活，皆因常民具協作性質的移動／媒介實踐而得以持續變動生成。&#xD;
研究發現，協作行動性在台北市區浮現與運作的過程，確實展現為一種「社會—技術—文化」動態過程，並且分別在這三方面展現出新意。在技術層面，智慧型手機與電動機車接合而成的協作行動性因促成媒介實踐與移動實踐的不可二分，因此有別於既有的編碼化行動性體系；同時，協作行動性展現出一種「擬個人」特性，不僅因其可模擬個人自有運具，提供同等的移動便利性，更因其在運作過程中，以「數據化個人」的使用行為數據，將個人轉化為擬個人。&#xD;
在社會文化層面，由於協作行動性符應當前智慧城市發展趨勢，其亦進一步反映出智慧城市所需之「智慧精神」治理形構；這種以數據為本的治理形構要求一種「好市民」主體形構，而此種主體形構在「擬個人」的運作基礎上，展現為混雜了技術客體與兼及個人認知與身體主體的新型態「機靈」主體形構。同時，協作行動性亦反映出一種新的監視型態：一方面，使用者並非單向被監視，其亦施展監視並據此進行移動實踐，且其可以逃逸甚至缺席於技術體系監控；另一方面，不同於過往監視相關討論，在協作行動性運作過程中，使用者可有能力在物質向度實質改動空間關係。&#xD;

    <title>You Can't Always Get What You Want: Gatekeeping and Social Capital in the Live-Music Scenes of Atlanta and Taipei</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/119472</link>
    <description>title: You Can't Always Get What You Want: Gatekeeping and Social Capital in the Live-Music Scenes of Atlanta and Taipei abstract: This dissertation examines live-music markets (or “scenes”) in the following cities:Taipei in Taiwan and Atlanta in the US. This examination is informed by three broad approaches to creative markets in sociology (field theory, the art worlds framework, and the music scenes framework), all of which share an emphasis on“embeddedness.” &#xD;
In particular, I focus on the impact of both gatekeepers and social capital within each of those scenes, and how both play out in two different places with regards to the music featured at a range of venues. I do this by analyzing self-gathered data collected from local newspapers as well as from surveys and interviews with band-bookers that act as gatekeepers. This self-gathered data documented 175 live music venues in Atlanta and 145 venues in Taipei in 2012—with 5,531 performers offering some 11,000 appearances in Atlanta venues, and 2,467 performers offering some 4,700 appearances in Taipei venues. Comparatively speaking, in 2012, Atlanta had a bigger, busier, more affordable but less connected live-music scene, while the live music scene in Taipei was smaller, more expensive, and had less busy days and months but involved a denser network of music venues. Despite the distinct “ecologies” of these two live-music scenes, social capital at the aggregate level operated in a similar manner for both, as live-music venues within several homophilous niches (based on ticket-price and featured genres) converged in terms of band-booking similarity. Not only did the attributes of venues (e.g., pricing, genres) matter for social capital, so too did the manner of their connections—as venues with common “friend(s)” were more likely to be linked in terms of booking the same performers. Furthermore, inequality in live-music scenes also matters, as I find that a status order, with its attendant “competitive jostling” and “emulation,” emerged among venues occupying different positions in the status order. This dissertation thus demonstrates how the market for live music is a domain in which social factors are intertwined with economic elements.

    <title>Affect, Perceptual Bias, and Public Support for Regulation of Negative Political Advertising in the 1996 Taiwan Presidential Election</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/108464</link>
    <description>title: Affect, Perceptual Bias, and Public Support for Regulation of Negative Political Advertising in the 1996 Taiwan Presidential Election abstract: This study has three major goals. The first is to investigate&#xD;
Taiwanese attitudes toward support for independent monitoring of&#xD;
negative political ads and to examine whether their support for this&#xD;
policy was due to the third-person effect; second, to discover&#xD;
whether people's affect toward the candidates has any impact on&#xD;
their support for regulation of negative commercials, and on the&#xD;
third-person and first-person effects; third, to explicate whether&#xD;
attack ad appeals--issue vs. image--funtion differently on people's&#xD;
support for regulation and on their perceived effects of those ads&#xD;
on themselves and on others.&#xD;
We are a.lso interested in exammmg the question of whether&#xD;
the third-person perception has an impact in the behavioral&#xD;
dimension--that is, whether people will take action instead of just&#xD;
holding attitudes in support of regulation of negative political&#xD;
advertising. The data analyzed were collected from a cross-sectional&#xD;
sample survey conducted during the campaign period of the 1996&#xD;
first-ever Presidential election in Taiwan.&#xD;
The results showed that people's affect toward the candidates&#xD;
...&#xD;
did have significant impact on the first- and third-person effect,&#xD;
and on their support for regulation of negative political&#xD;
commercials. However, the third-person effect had no significant&#xD;
impact on either people's attitudes or behaviors in support of&#xD;
independent monitoring of the negative political ads. Instead, it&#xD;
was people's "perceived effects on self" that inf1uenced their&#xD;
attitudes toward censorship. And, people's attitude toward the&#xD;
idea of free speech also had significant impact on people's support&#xD;
for regulation. In addition, the findings showed that people&#xD;
exhibited a greater third-person effect for image-attack ads than&#xD;
for issue-attack appeals; however, the effect of people's exposure to&#xD;
image-attack ads on support for regulation of negative political ads&#xD;
was not greater than the effect of exposure to issue-attack ads .&#xD;
Similarly, the effect for people's exposure and attention on their&#xD;
. support for independent monitoring of the negative political&#xD;
advertising was not greater for TV than for than NP.

    <title>Investigating the Effectiveness of Redundant Text and Animation in Multimedia Learning Environments</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/108463</link>
    <description>title: Investigating the Effectiveness of Redundant Text and Animation in Multimedia Learning Environments abstract: In multimedia learning environments, research suggests that simultaneous presentation of&#xD;
redundant text (i.e. identical narration and on-screen text) may inhibit learning when presented&#xD;
with animation at the same time. However, related studies are limited to testing with cause-andeffects&#xD;
content information (e.g., Moreno &amp; Mayer, 1999, 2002).&#xD;
This study examined the effects of redundant text on learners' memory achievement and&#xD;
problem solving ability. The study replicated and extended prior research by using descriptive,&#xD;
rather than cause-and-effect content information. The primary research questions were (a) does&#xD;
redundant text improve learning performance if learners are presented with instructional material&#xD;
that addresses subject matter other than cause-and-effect relationship? and (b) does sequential&#xD;
presentation of animation followed by redundant text help learning? To answer the research&#xD;
questions, five hypotheses were tested with a sample of 224 Taiwanese students enrolled in a&#xD;
college level Management Information System (MIS) courses at a management college in&#xD;
southern Taiwan.&#xD;
Statistically significant differences were found in memory achievement and problem&#xD;
solving test scores between simultaneous and sequential groups; while no statistically significant&#xD;
differences were found in memory achievement and problem solving test scores between verbal&#xD;
redundant and non-redundant groups. These results were supported by interviewees expressing&#xD;
difficulty in connecting animation and verbal explanation in the two sequential presentation&#xD;
groups. The interview responses also helped to explain why insignificant results were obtained when redundant and non-redundant verbal explanations with animation were presented&#xD;
simultaneously.&#xD;
In general, the results support previous research on the contiguity principle (Moreno &amp;&#xD;
Mayer, 1999), suggesting that sequential presentations may lead to lower learning performance&#xD;
when animation and verbal explanation are closely related. The separation of the two types of&#xD;
information may increase cognitive load. In addition, the study found that impairment of&#xD;
redundant text (Kalyuga, Chandler, &amp; Sweller, 2004; Moreno &amp; Mayer, 2002) was also affected&#xD;
by various learning characteristics, such as the structure of the instructional content and learners&#xD;
previous learning experiences.&#xD;
Recommendations for future study include: (a) research on various situations such as&#xD;
characteristics of the content, characteristics oflearners, and difficulty of the instructional&#xD;
material that influences the effects of redundant text, and (b) research on prior learning&#xD;
experience that influences the effects of simultaneous redundant text presentations.

    <title>Restructuring Broadcasting Policies in Taiwan: Managing Cultural Identity in a Recently-Democratic Society</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/107750</link>
    <description>title: Restructuring Broadcasting Policies in Taiwan: Managing Cultural Identity in a Recently-Democratic Society abstract: This study examined some ofthe most commonly cited factors that affect the reforms of broadcast policies governing developing countries' broadcast media, and how these factors influence the establishment ofTaiwan's cultural sphere. The subjects for this study were key persons from government, educational, economic and television production sectors involved in the planning and implementation of broadcast policies in Taiwan. They included public officials responsible for broadcasting policy, educators and community activists, media policy analysts and television manager and producers.&#xD;
The data ofthe study were collected through informant interviewing and document review. Within the Government Information Office, a number of public officials were consulted. Beyond the GIO, other media sources and agencies provided important documentation in the form of surveys and reports. The investigation was carried out in Taiwan over a period offour months between April and August 2004. The results ofthis research reveal that in spite of the expectation that television should be used to help foster and promote national culture, Taiwan has not successfully developed and implemented policies to ensure the achievement ofthis policy goal. The research findings indicate that the production ofdomestic television programs are undermined through a colonized broadcasting system. Despite the influence offoreign broadcasters over the cultural production, the case study also shows that the role of civil society group in restructuring television industry is made manifest by resistance to private groups' intervention in the broadcasting policy process.&#xD;
This study has practical implications for the formulation ofnational broadcasting policies in recently-democratic countries and other countries facing similar dilemmas. The broadcasting policy analysis conducted in this study focused in part on the commercialism offoreign television programs, which severely threatens indigenous cultures around the world. In an era of globalization, the preservation oflocal identity is a challenging goal for broadcasting policy planners since many states have embraced neo-liberalism approaches to the communication sector. Within a situation ofglobal-local nexus, the study concludes that protection ofnational cultural spheres will be the important policy agenda for both policy makers and researcher for years to come.

    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/107749</link>
    <description>title: 天山：一趟沒有地圖的心靈旅程 abstract: 2014年夏天，作者趙雅麗意外獲邀前往天山，由潛居天山40年的老獵人帶路，深入絕美的荒野，彷彿吟唱著一首上行之歌，沿著陡峭的山壁直向高處而行。&#xD;
途中只見蔥綠的針葉林，遠眺陽光灑在遠方白雪山頭，夜間則是極其明亮的星空。此行讓她對人生有了全新的觀照，也從孕育生命的大自然裡，獲得了最神奇的能量。&#xD;
下山之行，彷若完成了一場穿越時空的旅程。這趟旅程，顛覆了、重啟了她對人生意義的思考。藉著這次登高之行，她帶領讀者體會幾個最重要的生命課題：&#xD;
●如何能多愛自己一點&#xD;
●如何停下匆忙的腳步，聆聽自己內心的渴望&#xD;
●如何思考生命的本質：我是誰？我從哪裡來？我往哪裡去？&#xD;
●在困頓中向內尋求力量的方法&#xD;
●運用專注，發現無所不在的美……等等&#xD;
到如今，群山依舊不語，但作者心中已經有了答案。天山帶給我們追求真理、美和愛的感動，帶領我們回到「本真」的澄明境界，抵達幸福的彼岸。&#xD;
「我感到自己好似被溫柔的春風撫觸過，」她說：「內心增添了無限的輕盈與柔軟……我感覺自己生命的春天才剛要來到！」

    <title>China: Once upon a time/Hong Kong: 1997: Critical study of contemporary Hong Kong martial arts films</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/107748</link>
    <description>title: China: Once upon a time/Hong Kong: 1997: Critical study of contemporary Hong Kong martial arts films abstract: Martial arts films of Hong Kong are often dismissed as apolitical, ahistorical,&#xD;
escapist, and devoid of social critique. However, my dissertation shows that&#xD;
this is not the case by offering a critical reading of contemp'orary Hong Kong&#xD;
martial arts films. Focusing on the first three episodes of director Tsui Hark's&#xD;
Once upon a Time in China series (1991-1992), this study applies cultural&#xD;
studies to address such issues as political allegory, carnivalesque pleasures of&#xD;
resistance, representational politics, oppositional gendered readings, and the&#xD;
juxtaposition of turn-of-the century history, fiction, and contemporary&#xD;
politics.&#xD;
The series centers on the most well-known cinematic martial arts hero&#xD;
in Hong Kong, Huang Feihong, whose stories has been adopted in over one&#xD;
hundred movies since 1949. My study argues that these films can be read as a&#xD;
contemporary myth and political allegory in response to the crisis of 1997,when Hong Kong is to be taken over by the PRC after one century of&#xD;
colonial dominance. Such postmodern strategies as the incongruous&#xD;
juxtaposition of politics and commercialism, the recycling of antecedent and&#xD;
rival filmic and non-filmic texts, the maintenance and subversion of generic&#xD;
paradigms, and the mixing of fictional figures and events with historical&#xD;
ones, are contained in these films. These strategies produce an ironic&#xD;
rethinking of colonial history and the current political situation and a&#xD;
parody of the traditional hero. History and contemporary politics are thus&#xD;
questioned when fin de siecle Chinese history is playfully dismantled as a&#xD;
collage of official historical events, slippery memory, martial arts anecdotes,&#xD;
current political crisis, and images of popular culture.
