<description>title: The performance of reading appeal descriptors for fiction: From the perspective of indexing consistency abstract: In this paper we describe indexer agreement and disagreement on the application of appeal descriptors on adult fiction. The appeal descriptors developed by Ebsco NoveList were used for the testing. The analysis found that about 1/3 of the appeal descriptors were of high use, but indexer inconsistency was generally high for those descriptors. In contrast, only a very small number of descriptors were of high use and at the same time of higher indexer consistency.

<description>title: Data type and data source preferences for six social sciences subjects in quantitative data reuses. abstract: In this paper we describe an analysis of the most frequently used data types intersecting data sources in quantitative data re- uses in six major social science subject disciplines. Using a sample of 1,319 papers from 40 social sciences journals in Taiwan, this study reveals the reuse patterns among the subjects for a time span of 15 years. The finding shows that the six sub- jects formed three groups, each with similar data reuse patterns. It also shows that business data from governments, series surveys from academic institutions, and series surveys from governments are the three most important kinds of data for social scientists, but the major users of those data differed.

<title>Two-Stage Prompt Engineering for Graphical Abstract Interpretation Using Multimodal Large Language Models: An Evaluation of Adaptability and Performance</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/127946</link>
<description>title: Two-Stage Prompt Engineering for Graphical Abstract Interpretation Using Multimodal Large Language Models: An Evaluation of Adaptability and Performance abstract: Graphical abstracts play a crucial role in scholarly communication and information visualization by facilitating the rapid comprehension and structured organization of academic content. However, their multimodal nature poses challenges to automated analysis and information extraction, particularly in terms of cross-disciplinary adaptability and semantic understanding. As multimodal large language models are increasingly applied in academic information processing, optimizing graphical abstract interpretation through prompt engineering has emerged as a significant research focus. Despite these advances, systematic frameworks that integrate visual-semantic cues with prompt-based reasoning for precise domain classification remain scarce.
To address this gap, this study proposes a two-stage prompt engineering framework to enhance the interpretive and classificatory capabilities of large language models (LLMs) in analysing graphical abstracts. In the initial stage, LLMs leverage their multimodal capacity to extract key visual-semantic features, such as concepts and relationships, directly from graphical content, independent of textual metadata. The subsequent stage deploys four prompting strategies—Zero-Shot, Few-Shot, Chain-of-Thought, and Structured Prompting—to formulate preliminary classification hypotheses. These hypotheses are then fused with the extracted visual features through compositional prompting, enabling context-sensitive domain classification with explainable inference pathways.
To validate this framework, we curated a dataset of 177 graphical abstracts from Scopus-indexed journals, each manually annotated with disciplinary labels. Supplementary textual data, including titles, abstracts, keywords, and journal names, served as ground truths for robust evaluation. Performance was assessed using nDCG@k, MAP@k, and Precision@k metrics at k = 1, 2, and 3. Results indicate that Few-Shot and Chain-of-Thought strategies consistently outperform their counterparts, achieving peak scores of 0.510 (MAP@3) and 0.533 (nDCG@3), validated by Friedman and Nemenyi tests (p &lt; 0.05). Notably, the study reveals that prompting strategies interact meaningfully with domain-specific visual conventions, indicating the framework’s potential for robust cross-disciplinary deployment. These findings highlight the pivotal role of prompt architecture in multimodal reasoning and offer actionable insights for designing effective prompt strategies to advance scholarly knowledge extraction.

    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/126193</link>
舉個例子，在分析這句話時「I will do everything I can to correct the situation.」，缺乏句法知識的學生可能會對後半部「I can to correct the situation」的用法感到困惑，無法理解其意義（誤以為是語法錯誤）。實際上，這句話應分為兩個短句意群：「I will do everything I can」（短句一）/「to correct the situation」（短句二）。

<description>title: Smart AI Hometown Project-Coastline Environment Quality Testing Benefit Assessment with AiRgo: Taking the Northern Coast of Tamsui, Taiwan as an Example abstract: Ecological environmental protection is an important issue that continues to be of concern in the
education field. Through environmental protection programs that care for one's hometown, it can not only enhance individuals' respect for the natural ecology and environmental literacy, but also help create a friendlier living environment. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals to explore the current status of their local ecological environment, including conducting surveys, recording, and promoting effective ecological protection strategies. To this end, we plan to develop an AR glasses smart navigation device called AiRgo.
AiRgo uses AIOT smart networking technology and combines conversational robots to provide real-time
ecological exploration assistance on AR glasses. Through this device, participants can gain an in-depth
understanding of local ecological conditions in specific courses, implement environmental monitoring and record data, which will be used for future ecological impact analysis, further forming the basis for improving the current situation and planning ecological restoration strategies. The preliminary tests of this project to monitor the coastline environment in fresh water in Taiwan have shown the feasibility and
benefits of the device. It is expected that these results can be used by relevant research institutions to
promote wider ecological protection activities.

<title>Early Prediction of Academic Article Lifecycle Models Based on Multimodal Architecture</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/126191</link>
<description>title: Early Prediction of Academic Article Lifecycle Models Based on Multimodal Architecture abstract: The study of citation lifecycles in academic publications is crucial in scholarly research. Many
studies use descriptive statistics or regression analyses to forecast citation outcomes, but they often don't
fully combine textual data (like titles, abstracts, and keywords) with numerical data (such as impact factors
and h-indexes). This research introduces an innovative multimodal model designed to predict early citation
trajectories for scholarly articles, addressing this gap. We developed eight models to predict citations from
the first to the eighth year based on 2017 data. Our lifecycle analysis shows that the model maintains high
performance over multiple years, highlighting its robustness and adaptability. The results underscore the benefits of combining diverse data types for long-term predictive tasks, making our model a valuable tool for researchers and practitioners in Library and Information Science. This model significantly improves our ability to assess the early citation potential of academic papers, making it a valuable resource for researchers and policymakers in academic publishing. Additionally, to thoroughly explore bibliographic data, the study used LDA to investigate the topic distribution of library and information science publications in 2017.

To enhance digital reading performance, this work presents a collaborative reading annotation system with reading annotation and interactive discussion scaffolding (CRAS-RAIDS) to facilitate reading performance in collaborative digital reading environments. Based on quasi-experimental design, this work recruits 53 Grade 5 students in two classes at an elementary school in Taiwan. One of the two classes is randomly assigned as the experimental group that performs collaborative reading with the proposed CRAS-RAIDS support and the remaining class is randomly assigned to the control group that performs collaborative reading with traditional paper-based reading annotation and face-to-face discussion. This work examines the differences between both groups in reading comprehension, and reading strategy use in an active reading context. Analytical results show that the experimental group presents significant superiority on direct and explicit comprehension performance, inferential comprehension performance, and reading strategy use as compared to the control group.

<title>Developing Digital Reference Service Around Civic Movements: A Case Study of the Sunflower Student Movement in Taiwan</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/123654</link>
<description>title: Developing Digital Reference Service Around Civic Movements: A Case Study of the Sunflower Student Movement in Taiwan abstract: *Libraries bear the responsibility to reflect the needs of the modern society, by which they increase their value. One of the current goals for modern libraries is to assist the development of the government and society by supporting the citizens in decision-making. Taiwan’s Sunflower Student Movement in 2014 inspired its citizens to examine the contents of the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement (CSSTA) and the details therein. In this study, an online social reference service named “CSSTA Reference Service Desk” was established for answering questions related to CSSTA from the public with authoritative, first-hand information to fulfil the citizens’ information needs.*

*Based on interviews with participants of the Sunflower Student Movement about their information needs, the “CSSTA Reference Service Desk” was established on a Facebook Page for online social reference services in this case study. To ensure service efficiency, a code of service ethics and standardized service procedure were established. A “CSSTA Reference Knowledge Base” was also created to record the question-answering progress.*

*During 42 days of service period, “CSSTA Reference Service Desk” received 144 reference questions from 88 users. The majority of the questions were about the CSSTA and the details of other related trade agreements. Other questions include those about Taiwan and other countries’ regulations, updates on the Sunflower Student Movement, and the CSSTA Reference Service Desk itself. The Facebook Page Insights function was used to analyse the question-answering on the CSSTA Reference Service Desk.*

*In this study, traditional reference service was transitioned into a more public-friendly outreach service. The resulting service increased the visibility for libraries as well as reemphasized the librarian’s value in improving civic engagements.*

    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/123653</link>

<title>Effects of Different Text Display Types on Reading Comprehension, Sustained Attention and Cognitive Load in Mobile Reading Contexts</title>
    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/123652</link>
<description>title: Effects of Different Text Display Types on Reading Comprehension, Sustained Attention and Cognitive Load in Mobile Reading Contexts abstract: Despite the popularity of mobile reading devices, many studies have indicated that small screens restrict information transmission, adversely affecting reading performance on mobile devices. Moreover, mobile reading typically occurs in different reading contexts. Therefore, suitable text display type for mobile reading in different reading contexts should be considered, such that learners can effectively read content. This work selected the frequently used static and dynamic text display types (i.e., Paging and Auto-scrolling) and assessed their effects on mobile reading performance. Furthermore, the features of static and dynamic text display types were considered when designing a mixed text type for mobile reading. Based on brainwave detector, reading comprehension test sheet, and cognitive load scale results, this work designed a mobile reading experiment with a two-factor experimental design to assess the effects of the selected static, dynamic, and designed text types, which were respectively presented in sitting, standing, and walking contexts, on reading comprehension, sustained attention, and cognitive load of learners. Experimental results show that sitting obtained the highest sustained attention and the mixed text garnered lowest sustained attention. Moreover, although analytical results show that no significant difference existed in overall reading comprehension with each text type presented with the mobile reading contexts, reading comprehension (i.e., memory, comprehension, and application types) was significantly affected by the reading context, and to some degree, the text display type. This work also found that the text display type is a major factor affecting learners’ cognitive load; however, learners’ cognitive load is not be affected by the considered reading contexts. Among the three text display types, the mixed type generates the highest cognitive load, followed by the dynamic type, and then the static type. In conclusion, the three reading contexts with the three text types have both advantages and disadvantages for reading comprehension, sustained attention, and cognitive load. As a result, text display type for mobile reading on small screens should be adjusted according to reading context or to improve reading comprehension, attention, or cognitive load.

    <link>https://tkuir.lib.tku.edu.tw/dspace/handle/987654321/123651</link>
<description>title: The use of labeled postings for promoting asynchronous interaction abstract: The internet promotes computer-mediated communications, and asynchronous learning network systems permit more flexibility in time, space, and interaction than the synchronous mode of learning. The key point of asynchronous learning is the materials for web-aided teaching and the flow of knowledge. This research focuses on improving online interaction by using labeled postings embedded in the e-Forum discussion tool developed for this research. Subjects for the study were students who enrolled in the "Drug and nutrient interaction" course using the Problem-Based Learning approach. Students' online discussion data were gathered during the academic years of 2004 and 2006. Data from the study reveal that the design of labels for postings promoted interactive responses among learners, and the frequency of personal discussion increased. Self-improvement and the development of new subjects from discussion forums were also observed among learners.
