    <description>title: From State Governance to Cultural Negotiation: Multicultural Identity and Media Representation in Singapore abstract: This study examines the formation and evolution of multicultural identity in Singapore, with particular focus on the role of media and state policy in constructing cultural difference and national identity. Drawing on Stuart Hall’s theories of cultural identity and media representation, the paper analyzes how Singapore has promoted its “unity in diversity” framework through governmentality and media narratives. Traditional media tend to reproduce a depoliticized, harmonious image of ethnic relations, while digital and social media provide alternative spaces for marginalized groups and younger generations to negotiate and contest dominant identity discourses. This study further reveals how institutional inequalities—especially in language, media access, and education—undermine the cultural agency of minority communities. In response to the challenges posed by globalization and immigration, the paper argues for the development of a more inclusive and participatory form of deep multiculturalism, as well as an expanded public sphere for interethnic dialogue and identity pluralism. The findings contribute to ongoing debates on cultural governance in Asian societies and offer critical insights into the theory and practice of multiculturalism.

    <description>title: Performance evaluation of compulsory education system in Taiwan: A modified dynamic network data envelopment analysis approach abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine changes in the efficiency of Taiwan's compulsory education system between 2011 and 2020, identify the priority school sub-system for improving the system, and determine the input/output inefficiencies responsible for the sub-system inefficiencies. To achieve these objectives, a modified dynamic network data envelopment analysis model is used to assess the efficiency of the compulsory education systems and their internal primary and middle school sub-systems regulated by local governments. The findings indicate that both primary and middle school efficiency are crucial for evaluating the compulsory education system efficiency, and teacher and staff excesses in most local government's compulsory education systems are the primary sources of inefficiency. Therefore, the prompt adjustment of teacher and staff allocation based on student numbers is the primary approach to enhancing system efficiency.

    <description>title: Exploring the Predictors of Teacher Well-Being: An Analysis of Teacher Training Preparedness, Autonomy, and Workload abstract: Utilizing the job demand-resource theoretical framework, this study expands on previous research by examining the role of teacher workloads in the relationship between teachers’ resources and teacher well-being. The study used data from Taiwanese lower secondary school teachers in the TALIS 2018 survey and conducted a structural equation modeling analysis. The results showed that teacher training preparedness had a direct positive effect on well-being and an indirect effect that was mediated by teaching and student behavior workloads. On the other hand, teachers’ perceived autonomy did not have a direct impact on well-being but was indirectly related to well-being through the teaching workload. Additionally, the study found that teaching and student behavior workloads were negatively associated with well-being. By incorporating workload as a mediator, this study offers new insights into the complex relationship between job demands, resources, and well-being in the teaching profession.

    <description>title: 以文獻計量法分析新冠肺炎（Covid-19）疫情下創傷心理研究焦點 abstract: 新冠肺炎全球爆發迄今造成人類全體生活重大改變，疫情造成生命流失、親人朋友間生離死別、個人不確定感升高、工作生涯被迫轉換及中斷等，直接和間接的帶給社會大眾更高的心理壓力，甚至在災難後留下心理創傷。然而學術界或實務工作者，對此新型態災難的了解仍屬不足，故本研究期以文獻計量　（bibliometric）方法將全球最新與疫情有關的心理研究做系統化的分析，透過對相關主題及國際學者研究合作趨勢的了解，使我國心理諮商工作者能與國際接軌。本研究以收錄於Scopus學術資料庫的期刊文獻為範圍，回顧2019疫情爆發後18個月內，心理領域聚焦在創傷諮商文章1,300篇為分析對象，重要研究發現有以下三點：首先，文獻發表期刊最大宗來自新興開放取用（open access）期刊「心理前線」（Frontiers in Psychology），共217篇。第二，研究趨勢呈現東西分流的現象。以中國及以美國為主的學者各自發表，形成兩大集團。第三，在研究主題關鍵字分析結果顯示可分為四大主軸，分別是「在疫情中廣泛被討論的各種心理健康議題」、「不同族群在疫情衝擊中的影響及研究」、「疫情中的因應調適及復原力」及「併發症及疫情中的親子關係」。

    <description>title: The Unspoken Dilemma of Expat Wives: Gender Roles and Relations within Taiwanese Expatriate Families in Singapore abstract: The majority of Taiwanese expatriates in Singapore are working in male-dominated sectors such as high-tech industries. It is common for Taiwanese male expatriates to choose to bring their family members along to the host country. In order to accompany their husbands to Singapore, these expatriate wives must give up their careers in Taiwan. Some of them become stay-at-home wives while others seek to rebuild their careers in Singapore. This study investigates how Taiwanese expatriate wives juggle their work and family commitments and identifies how they negotiate gender-role expectations relating to both family and work. The results show that this group of highly qualified Taiwanese women who have a history of strong professional achievement and have levels of human capital similar to their husbands still have not managed to break the shackles of traditional gender roles. Instead of advancing their own careers, they are expected to put their husbands’ careers first.

    <description>title: Cultural Adaptation of Taiwanese Female Marriage Migrants in Hong Kong abstract: This study proposes to explore trans-border marriage migrants from Taiwan to Hong Kong, which are historically and politically separate entities despite similarities in Chinese culture. An understanding of marriage patterns was obtained from 38 in-depth interviews of Taiwanese women married to Hong Kong men. Patrilocal residence and acceptance of the patriarchal customs was the norm for the early female Taiwanese migrants. While encountering various difficulties in adapting to a different kind of Chinese culture, the early arrivals have successfully made Hong Kong their homes. Through joining various Taiwanese organizations, they have developed female friendship networks over the years. While developing careers, their socio-economic contributions to the Hong Kong society goes beyond the families into which they have married. Despite successful efforts in planting new roots by becoming Hong Kongers over the last few decades, some of the immigrants mentioned returning (luò yè guī gēn 落葉歸根) to Taiwan. Personal connections maintained with their homeland through frequent visits have enabled them to be aware of the latest developments, while trans-border linkages with their parents and siblings in Taiwan have strongly affected their desire to return. A more hospitable environment combined with a better quality of life compared to that of Hong Kong are the main considerations for their intention to leave their host community.

    <description>title: Recent (Young) Taiwanese Movers to Hong Kong: Challenges and Opportunities in a Global City abstract: Using Hong Kong as a case study, this article presents findings regarding the transnational migration of highly educated young Taiwanese to global cities in recent years. Three issues are discussed: (1) migration process and patterns, (2) cultural adaptation and challenges, and (3) returning. The data were obtained via face-to-face interviews with 35 young Taiwanese in Hong Kong and Taiwan from 2012 to 2015, utilizing a semi-structured questionnaire. Other than career development and financial incentive, our analysis took into account the challenges of dialect and unfamiliar culture, social adaptation, the high cost of housing, a crowded and polluted environment, and the fast pace of life. Close to 70 percent of the young migrants expressed a desire to move back to Taiwan for a variety of reasons. Although it is difficult to generate immediate economic incentives to attract emigrants back to Taiwan, the lower cost of living, less crowded environment, cleaner air, comfortable pace of life, better medical care, education for children, and sense of belonging to Taiwan are incentives to potentially lure young people back to Taiwan. Upon returning, their cosmopolitan training in Hong Kong and abroad would help Taiwan's economic development in the short run and contribute to a Taiwan identity in the long run. Private industries can take the lead in recharging their human resources by providing reasonable salaries and bonuses to attract the best and brightest back. Most importantly, the Taiwan government needs to speed up the amendment of laws and reinvent strategies to compete for young, highly skilled migrants from abroad.

    <description>title: Young Global Talents on the Move: Taiwanese in Singapore and Hong Kong abstract: This paper studies young Taiwanese who migrated to Singapore and Hong Kong for work, study or family reasons. It is based mainly on 40 in-depth interviews conducted in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in 2011-2014, thus obtaining narratives that contain detailed information to render nuanced understanding of the interviewees and the environment. The paper begins with a review of pertinent literature that includes youth migration and global talent, and the 1.5 generation migrants from Taiwan. It is followed by an analysis of major types of young Taiwanese in Singapore and Hong Kong with regard to: (1) their reasons for moving to Singapore or Hong Kong, (2) the types and trajectories of movement, (3) their social and cultural adaptation, and (4) prospects of returning to Taiwan.

Apart from the higher pay and fringe benefits, both Singapore and Hong Kong provide them with a cosmopolitan environment for global pursuits to which their education applies. However, there are disadvantages of living in Singapore and Hong Kong, such as climate, social and cultural differences, high cost of living, and quality of life. Being highly educated, they have contributed to the pool of global talents that both states compete for, while gaining overseas experiences in enhancing their skills and exposure to new social and cultural environments. 

At this juncture, Taiwan's policy to recruit young global talents remains at stake, and the urgent need is to prevent its well educated professionals from leaving, as well as to attract them back with more vigorous and effective polices. Due to the impermanent nature of young Taiwanese on the move, Taiwan may want to tap this human resource as a strategy to compete for global talents, as a critical aspect of population policy and social transformation.

Without this information, researchers cannot provide teachers with comprehensive suggestions for the design of concept mapping activities to improve students' critical thinking. This study aimed to examine the relationships between concept maps and critical thinking skills and explore how concept maps may differentiate individuals with low critical thinking skills from those with high critical thinking skills. A total of 70 participants were recruited from the English department of a high school in Taiwan. This study adopted a mixed-method approach. The quantitative data included students' concept map scores and critical thinking survey scores, and the qualitative data included students' concept maps. The results indicated a low Pearson correlation between the Novak and critical thinking survey scores as well as between the Gowin and critical thinking survey scores. The example scores of the concept map were the only element in Novak and Gowin's rubric that were correlated to the critical thinking survey scores. The qualitative analysis of the students' concept maps also revealed that the major difference between individuals with low critical thinking skills and those with high critical thinking skills was related to the use of examples within the concept maps.

    <title>Teacher candidates’ use of technology in remedial instruction at a junior high school</title>

    <description>title: Teacher candidates’ use of technology in remedial instruction at a junior high school abstract: To understand teacher candidates’ use of technology while providing remedial instruction, we arranged field learning as part of a “Remedial Instruction” course. There were 11 participants. Data were collected from classroom observation journals, lesson plans and instructional materials, debriefing meeting records, reflective reports, and focus group interviews. The results indicate that teacher candidates’ use of technology was influenced by their prior teaching experience, and that they often imitated the way in which the experienced remedial teacher used in class. Electronic presentations and videos were the most frequently used type of technology. When field-based learning was conducted, teacher candidates became more concerned about the main purpose of remedial instruction as well as the effectiveness of their technology use in class.  Moreover, an expectation of technology use was made from “teacher presentation” to “facilitating students’ self-learning” in the future.  At the end, relevant suggestions are provided to enhance teacher candidates’ abilities regarding the use of technology in remedial instruction.

Therefore, this study forms a collaborative learning community for pre-service teachers to learn from the secondary school teachers’ experiences. Through this collaborative learning community, the pre-service teachers work with their instructors and with the secondary school teachers while they are taking courses in the university. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the collaborative learning community works. In other words, what kind of activities would fit for the collaborative learning community and what the roles would the members paly in the group? Of course, what the benefits for the participants is concerned. That is, how does the professional development for each kind of participants? The results indicated that each of different kind of participants did the different work together and had growth in the collaborative learning community.

    <description>title: 生命教育的課程活動設計 abstract: 生命教育、品格教育，雖非屬於專業教育課程，但是對於全人教育的發展，卻極具重要。有鑑於此，生命教育在中等學校教育均多有所著墨，但是在大學端師資培育課程中僅以教育議題中為許多議題中之一。因此，藉由通識教育，讓學生了解生命教育的重要。&#xD;
&#xD;
早期生命教育大多依循台大孫效智教授課程分為三大部分，由於各中等學校有不同的需求，目前生命教育課程有如遍地開花，各有各的特色。本研究只針對本校在生命教育中的活動設計提出看法供大家參考。&#xD;
&#xD;
由於少子化及小家庭，導致目前大多數的學生對於生命創傷這部分較無法了解，而且對於生死議題鮮少討論。學生多數對外在環境採取較冷漠的態度，人際關係為大學生困擾問題之一。因此，在生命教育中設計的體驗活動為學生周遭日常生活為主題：有關心同學的課業、關心家中的老人家、關心動物、關心環境整潔等。讓學生從日常生活中感受到施比受更有福，感受到關心他人付出愛並非困難的事。從學生的回饋中得知:小組一同付出關心付出時間讓友誼更深入，大家也從中了解到其實付出並非難事，對自己更有信心。藉由日常生活的小事件付出關懷也讓學生體會到生命的意義環境對人類的重要性以及生命的可貴。&#xD;
&#xD;
從日常生活的關懷做起，生命教育就不會淪為口號或遙不可及的目標，反而能讓學生深刻體會到生命的意義與可貴，更重要的是學生有自信能活出一個有價值的給予關懷的生命。

There were 49 participants enrolled in the course “Instructional Media and Applications” in the fall semester of 2015. To measure the participants’ technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK), a questionnaire was administered at the beginning and end of the course. To understand the participants’ perceptions on learning communities, another questionnaire was administered at the end of the course. The results indicate that all the TPACK constructs were significantly improved except the content knowledge construct. Furthermore, the participants expressed a favorable perception on joining in learning communities. There was also an enhancement of interpersonal relations, human skills, practical knowledge, and quality of artifacts. However, two problems were identified in the process of learning communities, namely availability of time and degree of participation. Based on the research findings, relevant suggestions are provided at the end.

Nowadays, the influences of the flipped classroom are all over the world in the secondary school education. Therefore, the cooperative learning becomes hot teaching strategies again. However, the learning attitude or the learning support may be different between the high achievement students and the low achievement students. The interested in the cooperative learning may be different between these two group students. We expect that the cooperative learning may be accepted by the high achievement students and the adaptive learning may be suit for the low achievement students too. This study used the secondary data to analyze the different between these two groups. The data is the secondary data which is from Taiwan Education al Panel Survey (TEPS) Data. We choose the 2014 Chinese part data set to analyze the effect of the cooperation learning between the high achievement students and the low achievement students. There were 8575 participates in 2014 Chinese data set. In order to analyze the difference from the high achievement students and the low achievement students, we choose the high 5% students and low 5% students. Therefore, the total participates were 858 students include 429 high achievement students and 429 low achievement students. The result of the effect of cooperation learning between the high achievement students and the low achievement students is no significance difference. The result indicates that learning attitude of the high achievement students and the low achievement students in cooperation learning are no difference. In other words, the learning strategy in cooperation learning is fitting for the high achievement students and low achievement students in their learning attitude. Therefore, we can foresee that the flipped classroom especially using cooperation learning may successful in this education reform.

    <description>title: Exploring a senior teacher’s change in a learning community for improving pre-service teachers’ quality abstract: In this study, we investigated a senior teacher’s change in a learning community which aimed to improve the teaching quality of pre-service teachers. The senior teacher had been teaching Chinese in junior high schools for more than 30 years. In addition to the senior teacher, the participants of the learning community were from a university including three pre-service teachers, two teacher educators (researchers), and a Chinese subject matter expert. At the beginning, the university participants sat in the senior teacher’s class and observed his teaching. Then, all the participants prepared a new lesson together and then observed the senior teacher’s teaching of this lesson, followed by a discussion meeting. Afterwards, three steps of preparing, teaching, and discussing a lesson repeated to improve each pre-service teacher’ teaching practice. Based on the multiple data we collected, the senior teacher appeared to give his students more freedom during the teaching process, and he gained new insights on selecting and designing instructional materials. Furthermore, the senior teacher examined digital materials enthusiastically, and finally used technology in his class initiatively and frequently.

    <description>title: 翻轉的國中英語教室：App融入教學之研究 abstract: 本研究與國中「語文資源班」的現職英語教師及學生合作，依照外語教學與平板載具行動學習的特性，透過「設計研究法」（Design-Based Research, DBR），在教學現場進行實測、驗證與修正，探討如何透過行動載具內應用程式(Applications, Apps)「翻轉」國中英語教學課堂活動。透過質性資料收集與分析，本研究提出「個人載具學習」、「師生互動學習」、「群體協作學習」與「綜合回歸學習」四種學習模式原型，並綜合提出以教師專業為主，本於「科技學科教學知識」（Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, TPCK）的應用架構。本研究提出相關結論：行動學習在翻轉教室的運用仍需配套，如個人載具提供與維護、軟體或數位教科書內容建置與學習功能設計、免費與自由軟體的搭配、學校環境的配合與課程融入等。翻轉教室的教學實施也需要教師高度專業成長做為準備，本研究提出教師應本於「科技學科教學知識」的架構增進以學科教學為基礎之科技使用能力。同時翻轉教室在英語教學之應用應回歸語言教學本質，提供學習者語言運用與互動，甚至應用英語進行溝通、合作、解決問題等，並成為教師納入教學創意與客製化教學的途徑。&#xD;
This research study adopts “design-based research”(DBR) as a research method to examine how mobile Apps can be used in a “flipped” junior high school English classroom in Taiwan. Related issues, implications, and initial frameworks are offered after mobile Apps are tested in real classroom settings. Findings include issues of advantages and difficulties of the application, the four dimensions of the design prototypes, as well as an overall structure based on technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPCK) of the teachers. This study concludes that proper applications of mobile Apps be carefully designed based on TPCK to facilitate learning.

Although many educators and scholars have begun to pay more attention to unique issues associated with this population, studies exploring these students’ experiences as honors students in collegiate contexts are scant in the educational literature. The purpose of this study is to explore high-achieving Asian American students’ perceptions of their experiences in a collegiate honors program. Using an ecological framework, the authors explored four Asian American students’ unique experiences as members of a collegiate honors program at a large university in the Midwest. Using consensual qualitative research as a methodological framework, six domains were found: (a) experiences in the honors program, (b) resources, (c) perceptions of ethnic identity, (d) career aspirations, (e) suggestions for gifted students, and (f) needs and hopes.

A self-developed questionnaire was used to gather student teachers’ perceptions regarding the system’s main components and overall benefits. At the end of student teaching, ten participants were invited to complete the questionnaires and follow-up interviews. These results indicate that the VBL system combining video cases, guiding questions and discussion forums was able to promote in-depth thinking about technology integration in instruction. Moreover, student teachers perceived an increase in field observing skills. However, it did not appear a higher increase in their abilities, willingness, and confidence of using technology in the teaching field. Furthermore, student teachers expressed a high expectation of video quality and efficient use of the system. Accordingly, recommendations and further research were provided so as to maximize the system’s benefits.

In short, our system intends to create an environment where student teachers can share their practical teaching knowledge with their peers, and their discussion is supported by evidence disclosed in the video.
